Former President Goodluck Jonathan has condemned the ongoing primaries for the 2023 elections....
By Abdullateef Salau

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has condemned the ongoing primaries for the 2023 elections.

There have been reports of how aspirants having been inducing delegates to vote for them.

Daily Trust had reported how the son of Jonathan’s former deputy, Namadi Sambo, demanded a refund from delegates who collected his money but failed to vote for him.

Speaking on Thursday in Abuja at a book launch titled “Political Party Governance” authored by Dr. Mohammed Wakil, a former Minister of State, Power, Jonathan said it was disgraceful to induce delegates to get their votes and then request for refund after failing to secure tickets.

Jonathan said: “These whole primaries going on across the country is a mess. This is not a standard practice. The process has failed.

“We cannot use the process to elect president, governors, senators and House of Representatives members and others.

“The process is already failed, which is not good for the country. But we will manage and move on.

“We pray that good people should come. I hope that what happened this year, 2022 will not happen again in this country.”

The former president, therefore, urged the National Assembly to make laws to criminalise inducement of delegates and electorate.

He also asked the legislature to expunge from the Electoral Act, the sections that state how political parties should select candidates for elections.

Jonathan said: “The National Assembly can’t make laws and lock all political parties together. Parties have different ways of nominating candidates and the process is enshrined in their constitutions.

“Creating a situation where all parties must have the same way of selecting candidates is nonsense. Parties are not parastatals of government.

“The National Assembly can’t make laws to strangulate political parties. Section 84 should be expunged from the Electoral Act.”

I have a feeling that all the events that have happened and would happen arising from primary elections of parties will REFINE Nigerian brand of politics.

The party primary shenanigans that OBJ-led PDP introduced in their heydays which APC copied are beginning to look too crude for the present and of course the future.

I am surprised even Jonathan do not understand Nigeria problem. Which explained why he was clueless all through.

Nigeria problem is not absence of law or structure, Nigeria problem is the enforcement of the rule of law.

Nigerians will always find a way to game the law no matter how much perfect the law is. So if you like expunge, inject, create, structure, and bla bla bla, they will still maneuver except if they know there is a punishment for them that they cannot invade.

That is exactly why Nigerians abroad will never run over red light, because he knows if he is caught it will be on his record and it's citation straight. The same man will be in Lagos running red light because he knows there is no consequence and he can bribe his way out even if caught.

If we can find a way to ensure thorough enforcement of rule of law, Nigeria problem will decrease drastically. If you like go and bring America constitution, it will still Fail in Nigeria if you don't enforce it like it should.

This is the difference between the average Igbo man and the rest Nigerians. Why should we manage a failed system? This means if Jona goes to the Aso Villa again he will manage the failed system there for another 4 years and come out. How about real change?

We Igbos are tired of managing a failed system. Jona getat.

That's what Obi saw and backed out, it's clear that anybody that emerges as any party flag bearer induced the delegates to attain that position! Unless such a person was declared a consensus candidate by all and sundry in the party

In saner clime, this shameless guy will be in jail just for this statement alone.

Brazenly accepting that he bribed people for vote.
A son of the former number 2 man in the country.
Shame on them all.
Bunch of mofos.

As for Jona,
Here is the reply for him below....
