'Help retrieve my husband's remains': Widow of beheaded Oyo teacher begs Nigerian government

Mrs. Mary Oyedokun, the widow of Mr. Michael Oyedokun, the teacher who was reportedly beheaded by bandits following the recent school invasion in Oyo State, has appealed to the government and security agencies to help recover her husband’s remains.

In a viral video that surfaced online on Friday, the widow of the deceased emotionally appealed to the Federal Government to retrieve her husband’s body so he could be given a proper burial.

Speaking in Yoruba, Mrs. Oyedokun, visibly devastated, said she wanted her husband to have a burial site that family members could visit in the future.

“I am begging the government to please recover the body of my husband. I want him to have a burial site for future reference,” she pleaded.

Recall that the deceased, a Mathematics teacher at Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, was among the victims abducted when armed bandits attacked schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The incident occurred during coordinated attacks on Community High School, L.A. Primary School, Esiele, and Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, where several teachers, students and pupils were kidnapped.

According to reports, between 46 and 48 persons were abducted during the attacks.

A viral video later surfaced online showing the gruesome killing of Oyedokun by the abductors, sparking outrage across the country and generating widespread condemnation from Nigerians, including celebrities and civil society groups, who demanded improved security and accountability from the authorities.

Meanwhile, security agencies have continued rescue operations for the remaining victims still in captivity. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier assured residents that both kinetic and non-kinetic measures were being deployed to secure the release of those abducted.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also condemned the killing, describing it as barbaric, while assuring Nigerians that security agencies were intensifying efforts to rescue the remaining victims and arrest those responsible for the attacks.

People in Iran, Yemen, Seria and Afghanistan live in less fear than Nigerians currently do.

Yet, no state of emergency on insecurity and terrorism.

If you think you would live in peace once you japa out of the country, you are mistaking. When you japa, your fear will amplifier 2 times more than people in Nigeria because you are just a one phone call away from getting the news that your sibling or cousin or nephew or whatever has been kidnapped.
