There was tension in Iloro-Ekiti, Ekiti State, after students of Ayetoro/Iloro High School reportedly fled their school following rumours of suspected bandits operating around the community.

Videos circulating online showed frightened students running along roadsides in panic as residents and security operatives tried to move them to safety amid fears of a possible attack. Eyewitnesses said many of the students were seen desperately seeking transport away from the area.

Although no attack was eventually reported, the incident has raised fresh concerns over insecurity around schools and rural communities in parts of South-West Nigeria.

Residents have since called on security agencies and the government to strengthen protection around schools through increased patrols and security presence to prevent possible attacks and reassure parents.
