I am quite curious. Anytime there is a vandalised transformer or electrical system, the next thing we hear is that NEPA is asking for community to buy the equipment.
This is very common in Ilorin with somewhere around Agba dam having a similar issue right now.
I believe the transformer is the property of IBEDC and a means of income generation for them so why will the community pay for it when damaged.
I can imagine a bank asking people to pay for a damaged ATM or building.
Please I believe DISCOs can do better especially IBEDC in Ilorin. Sadly we have one of the worst power supplies in Nigeria.

Effect of not paying a cost reflective tarrif.

All those power equipment cost money. When most of we Nigerians are not paying a cost reflective tarrif, it does not mean we won't pay for the equipment one way or the other...or putting it another way, pay the full cost of our electricity .

If everyone was paying N250 per kwh or more....by now we won't be doing the work discos are supposed to do...because they would be making a profit to fix everything. But because we refuse to do so, and the APC government also keeps prices too low for discos to make a profit, the above is the result.

Like when I was in primary school, my parents paid heavy duty fees to enable me attend a private prinary school...and the fees were really high. Yet in return the school was able to afford books, textbooks, pens, pencils, desk, chair, etc. The government primary school near where I lived, they were paying one fifth of what my parents paid for primary school...and they had to also buy books, buy textbooks, pens, pencils and so forth...even on occasion make desks.

You see, when you pay a cost reflective tarrif, the power company will be empowered by profits and investment to buy you transformer and wires. When you don't and underpay them (and many of the customers are even refusing to pay their bills, because free power)...they won';t make enough money, won't attract investment, and you would be buying them their wires and transformers.

It's that simple.

Y'all can abuse me now and call me tinubu suipporter for speaking the truth about how companies and capitalism works. Power has been privatised since 2013, government, including tinubu government is forcing them to charge cheap prices so that tinubu can get reelected, and you are getting the result.


Oh and you do not pay banks for damaged ATM OR BUILDING...because BANKS IN NIGERIA, even when they were run by government did not have the prices and costs of their services set for them by government. Government does not even tell them that they should give loans and allow the customers to not pay back for the next 20 years. The difference between banks and powers is that the government does not determine how much the banks services cost.

Are you aware that there are people who pay cost reflective tariffs, and still bear the cost of repairs of these transformers, and even pay for their acquisition?

That means that the power sector is still not making enough money

You are losing money from 80% of your customers. That loss dwarfs your profits from 20% of your consumers, ain't no way you will meet the needs of all your consumers or give all your consumers full service.

You did not answer my question. Does it mean the best way of solving your not making a profit issues is by exploiting those customers who pay for your services in full? Are you justifying the actions of an armed robber, who steals because he couldn't find a high-paying job, or the woman who steals fish from the market because she didn't have the money to buy fish?

If most of your customers are underpaying you, you cannot make a profit that would be enough to enable you give full service to all customers, especially the customers who pay in full.

So not making profits from most of his customers gives a business the moral justification to steal and exploit those customers who are paying in full for their services. Nigeria is doomed with people like you, folks like you are enemies of progress to this country.

You can only have a working power sector if everyone pays cost reflective tarrif. Nothing like only some people pay.
