The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has begun the deployment of Distribution Transformer meters to all public distribution transformers under its franchise using an Advanced Metering Infrastructure solution for accuracy.

Mr John Ayodele, the Chief Operating Officer of company, made this known in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Monday.

Ayodele said that the metering was part of the company’s drive to provide quality service to customers under its franchise areas.

He said, “With the installation of these meters and the deployment of the AMI technology, IBEDC will be able to measure the actual energy consumption of customers in real-time.


“This initiative will greatly benefit customers as the smart meters will ensure better energy accounting and accountability, thereby making estimated bills more accurate and reliable.

“It will enable us to reduce our response time to fault-clearing and improve on our operational efficiency as the AMI solution can detect if there is a fault with a transformer and communicate this information in real time to our control room.

“This will make fault-clearing faster as the time wasted on patrolling the lines to locate the fault is eliminated.’’

Ayodele noted that the company’s technical team and authorised contractors had already begun the deployment of the smart meters and configuring some of the transformers to enable them to be compatible with the AMI solution.

He said: “We are appealing for the cooperation and understanding of our esteemed customers as our technical officers will require access to transformers that are situated within customers’ premises as well as also those safeguarded by communities.’’

Some people will always refuse prepaid meters so this approach is not bad but they should also make prepaid meters available to those who desire.

With all due respect to your opinion but I think it is time we all start saying positive thing about naija. We can not be laying curses on naija everyday and expect good thing from that same naija.It is just like someone waking up every morning to say it will not be well with me,I cam cursed or I am doomed and still expect good things.Agreed thing are bad in naija but I am sure just like the Sense in Nonsense there is still positive to take from naija everyday. It's no good news. It's not what they are expected to do. Individual customers should have their meters. It's not fair because households will still be given average billing. The transformer meter is meant for the community using the transformer. In a community where you have all manners of users, it is cheating continued.

Don't talk out of anger. A cursed country? If a country is cursed is it the buildings and the trees in that country you are referring to? If it is the people, remember you and your family are part of the curse. Why not say positive things towards your country?
