You said it all. Do you know that some Nigerians abroad does nothing as profession than scamming people back home inform of easy route to travel. That's actually how they make their living abroad and they live big. I have always said it that most Nigerians are very wicked and would rather hurt fellow Nigerians for better gain when opportuned......

you are not wrong. i have experienced this personally when i wanted to jail break a modem - normally westerners will make a guide and tools for jail breaking a device open to all - but get a device was that is limited to nigeria/india and i encountered all sorts of monetization and long story and outright BS over jailbreaking.

can't say. in my case admission had closed on the portal, but the process had been started and was like 70% done. in their case, they had not even started. they had not applied and admission was closed but the thing about private uni - they want your money - so i guess they probably sorted it out. i should have asked my son but other issues came up that made me forget.

i was silently wondering how a youth who was supposed to read computer science and who had a very good jamb score somehow could not go through the process of applying for admission online.

maybe that one was outsourced as well
Very true. They are lucky it is private university. The school is most likely used to this. They will sort it out.

Don't be surprised the parents stopped him from doing it. Some of these parents baby their kids so much.

I won't forget in 2023 when Waka waka doctor predatorily led me from his 'sweeter than honey' Instagram video led me to a page where he was demanding 60k for 1 hour consultation. I just unfollowed him immediately.

when i carried my son to abuad to close out on his admission, i met a parent who had effectively outsourced the entire process to a third party.

All you needed to do was go to the website, apply, pay application fee, upload results and check in every 2 days for update

but this man, a senior manager in zenith bank with a son who was supposed to be reading computer science, had outsourced this simple task to a person who had done nothing until the admission portal was closed.
Imagine outsourcing one's child university admission in this same Nigeria. God abeg.

I’ve been trying to find Nigerians abroad for work, interviewing them and asking how they relocated. One thing I’ve noticed during my search is how everybody is now a “Japa coach”.

Everywhere you turn now, somebody is selling a relocation masterclass, consultation, CV package, visa mentorship, Telegram group, “secret route”, etc.
And maybe it’s just me, but some of the prices are insane 😭

Like, I understand people monetising knowledge, but sometimes it feels like they are taking advantage of how desperate and confused a lot of Nigerians are right now, especially because half the time the information is already publicly available or came from another random person’s Twitter thread.
I even saw somebody charging for “hidden European countries Nigerians don’t know about” 😭 what's that about?

It just made me realise how deeply capitalistic and exploitative Nigerians can be, especially when we're in a seemingly better situation than before; we barely hear enough from normal people who actually relocated successfully without all this packaging around it.
Dey play
Even the one with wrong information will charge you grin

To correct or add to your opinion. Any person that asks you for money to help you with visa runs is trying to exploit you. It's a usually as simple as that

Honestly, if only most people know that you can actually apply your visa yourself. All it takes is careful review of what the requirements are and patiently gather all of them and then submit, you definitely get your visa. Please do your research to any country of your choice and you will be fine.
You are correct but for those who have the money

I relocated to Canada last year July via Canada Express Entry program (French category/Federal Skilled Worker). I got 95% of the important information about the process from Nairaland. The info about japa is on the Internet, put the effort to search and read through it.

As long as you can pay the official processing fees and other official fees, you can do the japa thing all by yourself.... you don't need any agent.

I think we should be grateful how Nigerians can monetize any situation, problem and achievement. They learnt from the best!!!

you are talking absolute nonsense

do not mix westerners with western corporations

there are multiple software products i use that a westerner made available for free.
when it comes to acts like software piracy, or hacking , jail breaking westerners make the crack available fro free

it is nigerians as an example who will try to sell you pirated software as orignal and do their best to gatekeep the crack and tell you all sorts of bs about how hard it is for them to get something they downloaded from the internet

nigerians who in the 200s were trying to charger people for creation of yahoo email addresses

a poverty/greed mentality and enshitiffication from the get go
