Broadcaster Rufai Oseni has stirred fresh conversation online after reacting to the APC’s just-concluded primary election, and a lot of Nigerians have something to say about it.

Rufai, while speaking on the outcome of the primary, said he doesn’t see the exercise as a real election. According to him, what happened should not be used as a picture of what Nigerians should expect in 2027.

His words:

“Do you think this APC just concluded primary is actually an election? It’s a skit.”

He didn’t stop there.

Rufai went on to say that the figures being mentioned from the primary could create the wrong impression ahead of the next general election if Nigerians are not careful.

According to him, if people are already being told that President Bola Tinubu can pull 10 or 11 million votes in a party primary, then it becomes easy for that same narrative to carry into the 2027 election.

In his words:

“That’s a bad narrative and a pretext for rigging.”

Not surprisingly, the comment has generated serious reactions online.

Some Nigerians agree with him. They believe the numbers from the primary deserve to be questioned and openly discussed. For many of those reacting online, Rufai only said what others were already thinking privately.

Others, however, don’t see it that way.

Supporters of the APC argue that party primaries are internal party affairs and completely different from a nationwide election. Some say comparing the two doesn’t make sense because only party delegates are involved in primaries, not the general voting public.

Still, the debate hasn’t slowed down.

Across Facebook, X and comment sections on news platforms, Nigerians are sharing different opinions. While some praised Rufai for speaking openly, others accused him of reading too much into the primary result.

First the APC started with party registration figures. They blew that out of proportion. Second, they have put out outrageous numbers as the votes Tinubu got during the primaries. They are laying down a narrative that Tinubu has millions of potential votes out of the gate. The rigging of the next elections has begun in earnest.
