This was baba jakande's vision before Tinubu came and dabaru everything. With his quack innovation. How can someone who claimed to have schooled and lived in the US, even drove taxi for survival ended up this way? Lagos is not as busy as London and New York city. They prefer embezzling money with their quack traffick solution. I had to personally write to a commissioner in Lagos to introduce CCTV and traffic lights to the mainland before they finally acted and this is what happens when a non-indigene who is only interested in milking your state holds sway. All these will be addressed by uncle Doherty, may God protect him. Late Funsho Williams wanted to come up with the railway model in his administration after which his life was cut short. May his killers never find peace and may they continue to face disgrace in the eyes of the world, amen!

When we say its time to take our state back, someone was telling me that we yorubas are the same and can govern any state i just ignored him. He should go to Ondo or oyo state and contest for the post of ordinary ward councillor and see how far. We don take too much shiit and we're ending this asap. I've been to London and new York several times by the grace of God. You'd never know the cities were so populated with the functional rail system in place, including underground train channels.
Their BRT buses here are breaking down already with no solution in sight. I went to abule egba yesterday. On getting to Ile epo market, I was able to count up to 3 buses already stranded on the BRT lane. With a functional rail system in place, you'd have no cause to shrink our already overwhelmed roads for BRT. We have the money to make this happen but they keep stealing it, using it to stage protests and sponsor politics in other states. All these nonsense will soon stop.
Lagos is tinibu's life blood it's definitely going to be a political miracle to defeat his apc ruling cabal in lagos.

Let's revisit the issues Nigerians debated in newspapers and magazines this month around 50 years ago.

Today, let us travel back to 1978 for Alexander Igbineweka’s proposed solution to Lagos traffic jams.

What's your view about this? Could this be the solution to the Lagos state frequent traffick jam?

Source:
Driving with common sense (especially public transport drivers) on the roads will surely reduce 30% of trafic jam on the road. See points below;

1. Keke, busses, bikes dont wait at trafic lights. Infact any vehicle painted yellow. And nothing is done to enlighten them on trafic rules.
2. People driving with escorts. They drive like the road belongs to them hereby disturbing other road users. Reckless driving, overspending, one way driving. Etc
3. Bad road networks, and bad roads.
4. Unnecessary police check points.

If these few can be taken care of the trafic will reduce.

does a man drive 2 cars at the same time? this reasoning is flawed
Thank you jawe. The problem is not the number of cars owned or bought but the number on the road at the same time.

You well so? Jakande was governor between 1979 and 1983, Tinubu came in 1999 after almost 20yrs yet you said Tinubu dabaru Jakande's plan. How?

The roadsides people are the major cause- beggars, petty traders , agberos/commercial transport operators/okadas and shops!

The document was dated 1978, which is one year before progressive UPN governor Jakande took office.

Splashme:
The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.

Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.

The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.

Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”

The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.

Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.

He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

The idea of " EVEN AND ODD" number should be reintroduced. It help a lot to check the traffic situation. Gen-Z might not know what is odd and even number. Sorry guys.

It is not going to work as it failed. You don't discourage human behaviour by ban, ban, ban. You discourage it by making it expensive. Yes to the efficient rail network and copy Singapore with its ERP (Electronic Road Pricing) system where drivers who drive through certain roads at certain times in the day pay higher fees.

6am - 9am on Third Mainland Bridge should be 2000 for a regular sedan. Before this, put a train connecting the mainland and island. Also, have ferries transporting people across the state. Then make it expensive for people to drive. They can own 100 cars, but make it very expensive for them to drive them.
The whole agbero system is based off this on paper. In a properly functioning society the money paid to the agberos is for the use of that portion of road and is supposed to go towards its upkeep

Same way that commercial vehicles pay local govt Hackney dues

The reality is the money is 100% memory holed.

So introducing erp unless it is fully electronic and paid to a system rather than people is just extending agbero to private drivers.

People in UK joke about oi you got a license for that mate - and we have the same thing here but it is just extortion by local govt riff raff.

Moving in convoy doesn't follow that as even if they have just a car to their name, it still wouldn't stop them from moving in convoys, so that's already flawed and irrelevant to the problem
Re: One Man One Car: Could This Be The Solution To Lagos Frequent Traffic Jam? by OkanlawonB(m): 4:30pm On May 24
Anyone who is old enough to know the drama of the 1970s in Lagos as regards measures aimed at tackling the heavy traffic situation then will remember "even and odd numbers system".
On a particular day only even numbers were allowed to ply the roads, the next day, it's the odd numbers.

Another measure was the use of Park and Ride system, parking space at the National Theatre, Iganmu was used for this purpose. Commuters from Lagos mainland drove to National theatre then park their vehicles there and join LSTC bus to Lagos Island.

Past governors including Tinubu, Fashola, Ambode have all tried to put an end to " owo mi da " but not worked instead they all worked with them like the present governor Samwo is doing .

Whenever they try to end it, it resulted in Union strike, since BRT buses alone can't be enough to convey everybody.

The most annoying thing is that they is to effect strike when workers have left their respective homes for work thereby causing crowd in bus stops during the closing time. To return home becomes problem resulting in high transport fare.

That’s true but they are not always on the road like common man who goes to work Monday to Friday.

I only support the double decker bus idea and others like create a safe and cheaper waterways mode of transport, fix bad roads, expand the existing ones, restrict the yellow buses to Oshodi and environs down to Sango Oga, remove unnecessary police check points.

To me, the major cause of Lagos traffic is those yellow buses/korope/keke napep plus the agberos tax collectors. These guys can defile nature and don’t mind keeping Lagos on stand still to satisfy their pockets.

Then Lagos has too many bad roads. Fixing 60% will ease traffic

In western cities even before 1978 with just an effective metro line that runs from point A to B the issues of cars jam or traffic imbroglio will naturally fade away giving our roads a clean passage.
But our leaders go there for vacation and don't come back home to do just same thing seen instead they waste energies and times on frivolities.

Makes no sense and will not work.

I’ll simply register one car go wife and each for children.

1. Best introduce road tax per vehicle
2. Improve current rail transport
3. Encourage companies to do work from home.
4. Encourage companies Gary opening times and. Living times. We all do not need to resume by 8 and close by 5. Why not 7-3, 8-4, 9-6, 10-7 even 11-8.
So we all don’t go on the road at same time.
5. Encourage staff buses for companies.
6. Provide infrastructure so companies can survive anywhere. Agege, Ikorodu, Isolo, Agbado, Okokomaiko. Big companies don’t all have to be ion the Island.
That one you mentioned is another problem, big companies are too much on that island and also work from home should be encourage

even in developed countries, there has never been a time people thought that having more than one car should be a reason to ban people from actually having more than one car. only people who are not well to do in life see a problem with this. instead of this, why dont you ask the govt to fix public transport infrastructure and then heavily tax people who have more than one. so because of decongestion, make we wey dey go work at 6am at opposite direction from my wife and kids, wait for them till they are probably ready around 8am? less privileged people have a very skewed way of thinking walahi. besides, the post said, one man one car, not one family one car.
