DICKSON TO INAUGURATE NDC SELECTION COMMITTEE
 
Following the successful completion of its screening exercise for Governorship, National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly aspirants, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will on Monday, May 25, 2026, formally inaugurate the members of its recently empaneled Selection Committee.

The Committee which was constituted last week, in furtherance of NDC's avowed commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and credible candidate selection, is mandated to review, scrutinize, and consider the reports and recommendations of the National Screening Committee and the State Houses of Assembly Screening Committees, and to take appropriate decisions on the screening outcomes of all aspirants.

The Selection Committee, which is to be chaired by the NDC National Chairman, Sen. Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, is a brainchild of the NDC National Leader, working in concert with the recommendations of the National Working Committee (NWC), as part of ongoing preparations for the upcoming general elections. It is to ensure that the NDC presents the most formidable candidate for every position to be contested in the general election.

The inauguration of the 21-member committee, slated for 4:00pm at the NDC National Secretariat, will be performed by the National Leader, Sen. Henry Seriake Dickson.

2027 election: NDC sets up national selection committee for governorship, national assembly primaries

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has sanctioned the formation of a National Selection Committee.

The party indicated that this resolution was made by the National Leader of the party, based on the advice of the National Working Committee, NWC, as part of the ongoing preparations for the screening and selection process ahead of the upcoming governorship and National Assembly primaries.

According to a statement issued by Hon. (Barr.) Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the National Secretary of the party, the committee is tasked with reviewing, examining, and evaluating the reports and recommendations from the National Screening Committee, and making appropriate decisions regarding the screening results of all aspirants.

The committee members include:

The party urged all aspirants, stakeholders, leaders, and members to exercise understanding, cooperation, and patience, highlighting the stringent timelines within which these essential tasks must be completed.

It stated: “This process aims to foster consensus-building and ensure the selection of broadly acceptable candidates through a transparent, fair, and credible mechanism.

“In accordance with the party’s reform-oriented approach to internal democracy, only those aspirants who have been properly screened by the National Screening Committee and approved by the National Selection Committee will be permitted to purchase nomination forms.

“Where consensus is not achieved among aspirants, the party will proceed to conduct direct primaries scheduled to hold from May 28 to May 30, 2026, in accordance with established guidelines.

“The National Selection Committee will be formally inaugurated on Monday, May 25, 2026, and is expected to hold its inaugural meeting immediately thereafter.”

The Nigeria Democratic Congress reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, credible, and inclusive selection process that strengthens party unity and positions the party for electoral success.
