BLOODY WEEKEND FOR ISWAP/BOKO HARAM ATTEMPT ON LOCATION IN KIRAWA AS HEAVY LOSSES INFLICTED ON THE TERRORISTS Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), under Operation DESERT SANITY and SIEGE OPERATIONS, have successfully thwarted attempted attack by suspected ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists on troops location in the Kirawa axis of Sector 1 OPHK Area of Responsibility in the early hours of 22 May 2026. A number of the suspected terrorists attempted to infiltrate positions held by troops of 153 Task Force Battalion and associated forces along the Nigeria–Cameroon border axis. The attack was swiftly detected and met with overwhelming firepower from alert troops and CJTF, who held their ground and contained the assault. The terrorists were forced to abort their mission and withdraw in confusion towards the Cameroon axis, sustaining heavy casualties during the engagement. Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance assets, alongside platforms of Air Component of OPHK and partner forces, provided coordinated support throughout the operation. Following the encounter, troops confirmed the neutralisation of 12 terrorists, while several others were observed retreating with gunshot wounds, as indicated by blood trails along their withdrawal routes. Recovered items include AK-47 rifles, rocket-propelled grenade systems, ammunition, and a PKT machine gun, further degrading the terrorists’ combat capability in the area. Troops of OPHK, in conjunction with the Civilian Joint Task Force, have maintained their positions with heightened vigilance while exploitation operations continue to track fleeing elements and recover additional materiel. The Joint Task Force reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to sustaining operational pressure on terrorist elements until they are completely neutralised across the theatre. The Military High Command commended the troops for their gallantry, utmost professionalism, and swift response, the third in the week urging them to maintain the operational momentum in the collective interest of national security. NIGERIAN ARMY SUSTAINS REGIONAL SECURITY POSTURE, SAFEGUARDS DEMOCRATIC PROCESS IN BENIN REPUBLIC The Nigerian Army (NA), acting on the directive of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces o Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellecy, Bola Ahmed Tinubu deployed a company of troops to the Republic of Benin in April 2026 as part of proactive measures to safeguard democratic stability and forestall any breakdown of law and order during the country’s electioneering period. Although not directly tasked with election conduct duties, the Nigerian Army troops were strategically positioned to provide a stabilizing presence before, during and after the electoral process. The deployment was aimed at deterring potential security threats, reinforcing public confidence and supporting a peaceful democratic transition in line with Nigeria’s commitment to regional peace and cooperation. The troops, operating under Operation ATILEHIN ALAFIYA II, maintained a high level of operational readiness throughout their stay, conducting patrols, monitoring key locations and sustaining a visible security presence across critical areas within the Cotonou metropolis and its environs. This forward-leaning posture culminated in the successful provision of security support during the presidential inauguration ceremony of President Romuald Wadagni. Nigerian Army personnel were deployed in the early hours of the day to strategic locations, including the main inauguration venue and other designated points, establishing a comprehensive and layered security architecture that ensured a peaceful and hitch-free event. The Commanding Officer exercised direct operational oversight at the venue, while other elements were deployed across multiple static positions. In addition, mobile patrol teams conducted area domination operations to enhance situational awareness, deter criminal elements and reinforce the overall security framework throughout the duration of the ceremony. The successful execution of this mission underscores the capacity of the Nigerian Army for rapid deployment, operational professionalism and its readiness to support regional peace initiatives. It also highlights Nigeria’s leadership role in promoting democratic governance and stability within the West African sub-region. The Nigerian Army remains committed to working collaboratively with regional partners and relevant stakeholders to ensure a secure and peaceful environment across the region, in line with the objectives of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has commended the troops for their discipline, resilience and exemplary conduct, noting that their performance reflects the core values and operational excellence of the Nigerian Army. The Nigerian Army will continue to uphold its constitutional mandate while contributing meaningfully to regional and international peace support efforts. The inauguration ceremony was well attended by the President Commander-in -Chief Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu represented by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima and other dignitaries from Nigeria. TROOPS OF OPERATION HADIN KAI RESCUE 92 KIDNAPPED CIVILIANS, FOIL IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE, AMBUSH , IN SWIFT BURATAI RESCUE OPERATION Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have demonstrated their unrelenting commitment to the protection of civilians, executing a swift and decisive rescue operation that freed 92 kidnapped victims from BH/ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya road, Biu Local Government Area, Borno State, on Saturday 23 May 2026. At approximately 1122 hours, alert troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion deployed at Dutse Kura detected BH/ISWAP terrorists forcibly herding civilians and vehicles off the road and into the surrounding bush using their surveillance system. The unit’s Quick Reaction Force was immediately mobilised, while reinforcement troops from 27 Task Force Brigade Garrison were simultaneously activated to join the rescue. Converging on the terrorists in a well-coordinated pursuit towards the Mangari-Dora general area, OPHK troops engaged the insurgents and forced them to abandon their captives and flee in confusion. All 92 kidnapped victims, comprising 52 males, 33 females and 7 children, along with 8 vehicles, were successfully recovered. In a desperate bid to delay the advancing troops, the fleeing terrorists covertly emplaced three IEDs along the Bula Zarma, Mangari general area in a calculated ambush attempt. The plot failed completely. The unit’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team responded with precision and successfully detonated all three devices, clearing the route and enabling troops to press the pursuit approximately five kilometres beyond the Mangari general area. Subsequent search operations were conducted across the area, but the terrorists having abandoned their captives, their vehicles and their tactical objectives had scattered in complete disarray. OPHK troops sustained zero personnel or equipment casualties throughout the operation. The rescued civilians were consolidated, provided immediate welfare support and escorted by troops all the way to Damaturu, where they were released to continue their journey. This operation once again affirms the operational reach, surveillance capability and combat readiness of OPHK and serves as an unambiguous message that any attempt by terrorists to harm, kidnap or intimidate civilians will be met with swift and overwhelming force across the entirety of the North East Theatre. *SANI UBA* Lieutenant Colonel Media Information Officer Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI 23 May, 2026

gomol: You didnt read the post itself; Anyways Mr president is just flexing his muscles and for me I dont think we need sending soldiers abroad when we are facing security challenges way back at home. To answer your question in a nut-shell; According to statements from the N.A and government officials, the deployment was meant to: help prevent violence or instability during Benin’s election period, support constitutional democracy, deter coup attempts or unrest, and strengthen regional security cooperation under ECOWAS. |

bidexiii:PRESS RELEASE NAF SUSTAINED AIR STRIKES TRIGGER TERRORIST APPREHENSION IN BORNO STATE The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), through the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, has sustained its aggressive counter-terrorism air campaign in Borno State, delivering decisive strikes against terrorist strongholds and logistics enclaves within the Sambisa Forest axis. Following credible Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance reports, NAF air assets on 26 May 2026 executed precision strikes on identified terrorist hideouts and support structures at Biramiri in the Gezuwa general area of Borno State. The coordinated attacks destroyed key terrorist facilities and neutralised several fighters, further crippling the operational capacity of the insurgents. The intensity and precision of the ongoing air offensives have continued to generate fear and confusion among terrorist elements across the Sambisa axis. Intelligence assessments indicate growing apprehension and disorientation within the ranks of the terrorists as sustained bombardments deny them freedom of movement and safe havens. The NAF, in concert with troops of Operation HADIN KAI and other security agencies, remains resolute in maintaining relentless pressure on terrorist networks while reinforcing its commitment to protecting innocent lives and restoring lasting peace and security across the North-East. bidexiii:I think it was necessary for economic and geopolitical reasons rather than security. Not much would have changed security-wise However, Nigeria's border with Benin republic is the busiest with most trade. Nigeria is heavily dependent on Cotonou port. A lot could go wrong that could affect Nigeria's economy. Also Benin leaving ECOWAS would have split the latter into two separate territories, with consequences for many cross-border investments and plans by ECOWAS and Nigeria. Also, Access to sea and improved trade with AES countries, bypassing Nigeria, another possibility. |

IS-Sahel has claimed for the first time attacks against the Nigerian army in Kebbi and Sokoto states of northwest Nigeria, this confirms my reports for the last few years that the so-called "Lakurawa" is only a front group for the Islamic State, despite many "analysts" and "experts" claiming otherwise. And just as reported, the Islamic State explains that they were active in NW Nigeria for a long time previously, but refrained from claiming these attacks until now for operational security reasons Source: @brantphilip_
