Real Madrid have been named the most valuable club in world football, with Barcelona overtaking Manchester United to move into second place.

In Forbes' annual list,
external, Real Madrid have been valued at $9.5bn (£7.06bn), up from £6.75bn (£5.02bn) a year ago, with Barcelona second at $7.5bn (£5.57bn) and Manchester United third at $7.2bn (£5.35bn).

United's revenue was $865m (£643m) for the 2024-25 season, a campaign in which they finished 15th in the Premier League and lost in the Europa League final.

The Premier League has six teams in the top 10 and 11 in the top 30.

Liverpool, who won the English title in the 2024-25 season, remain fourth with a value of $6.2bn (£4.61bn) while Manchester City drop from fifth to seventh at $5.5bn (£4.09bn).

Bayern Munich stay sixth ($5.7bn, £4.24bn) but 2024-25 European champions Paris St-Germain ($5.8bn, £4.31bn) move up from seventh to fifth.

Arsenal ($5.4bn, £4.01bn) are eighth, with Chelsea ($4.2bn, £3.12bn) ninth and Tottenham ($3bn, £2.23bn) 10th.

However, the Gunners could well move up the list next year as they have won the Premier League for the first time in 22 years and play PSG in the Champions League final on Saturday.

Despite Real Madrid and Barcelona taking the top two spots, the only other La Liga club in the top 30 is Atletico Madrid in 11th.

With 11 sides in the top 30, the Premier League is the most represented competition. There are also seven Major League Soccer teams in the list, as well as four from Italy's Serie A, three from the German Bundesliga and one apiece from France's Ligue 1 and Portugal's Primeira Liga.

On average, the 30 teams are worth $2.9bn (£2.15bn), a 21% increase from 2025's record $2.4bn (£1.78bn).

The other Premier League sides in the top 30 are Aston Villa ($1.4bn, £1.04bn) in 16th, Newcastle United ($1.25bn, £935m) in 19th, Everton ($930m, £692m) in 25th, Fulham ($920m, £685m) in 26th and Brighton ($910m, £678m) in 27th.

In English league rank, Arsenal should overtake Man City next year but no one is catching Man United anytime soon. That opportunity provided in most of the past 13 years is lost, the base is too solid.

I just checked their earnings in the last 2 transfer markets... Not to mention the Europa money they snatched from United, added to getting past group stage in the UCL.

Sha, they should sign better players come Summer, or that relegation they are toying with will eventually happen.

What lie?!

The revenue Madrid, Barcelona and United generate from their historic names alone surpasses what other clubs make from ticket sales.

Talk about ticket sales, tv rights, media coverage, brand sponsorship deals... Just name it!

The top 3 clubs make mad money every year.

They are truly and massively financially VALUABLE!

Valuation is purely commercial.
Those who are able to grow their revenues, assets and balance sheets through various means if which sporting success is just one.

I won't be surprised if the completed Estadio Santiago is responsible for Real's latest pump. Cist them close to 2 billion and the dominance of English clubs owes it to their dominance in international markets courtesy of global brand popularity. The world is essentially English speaking.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are exploring the advantages of independently selling their TV rights, which provides them with significant financial benefits at the expense of other Spanish leagues. Other Spanish leagues could have greatly benefited from a more equitable distribution of TV revenue, similar to what is implemented in the English football leagues.

Indeed.
But the flip side is the erosion of talent from these smaller clubs over the years with their quality managers and players going abroad in search of better deals weakening the competition season after season such that Spanish clubs no longer dominate the latter stages on the continent.

With fewer eyes watching them at the biggest stages the commercial machine will soon begin to falter. Laliga is a case of typical third world economics where the gap between the rich and poor widens to create ungovernable spaces filled with lawlessness. Can you imagine that a couple of Laliga clubs struggle to pay salaries. Relegated Westham got 115 million pounds from the PL while Barcelona got 88 million for winning Laliga.

The difference is corporate governance. The Spanish FA over the years has sat back idly and permitted the Big Two to run roughshod over the league, determining everything from commercial dealings to scheduling, the rules of the game and has even tried to influence refereeing. Whereas in England the rules are more rigid, the boundaries clear and the Premier league management gives all the clubs equal rights on all matters concerning the competition.

Where did all these come from....
The roots lie in politics. Age old politics. From a time when Spain was divided between the Republicans and the Nationalists, through the civil war, when sports and specifically Real Madrid became a symbol of Nationalistic dominance, General Francisco Franco spared no effort in using the club as a tool to project his popularity, propaganda and power. The seeds of individuals dominating institutions were planted.

It seem you don't understand what is meant by "most valuable"? It is not limited to just cash revenue or cash at hand. The valuation includes assets, revenue, the value of each players.

David Gill did a great job during SAF's time. Those two were a perfect combo.
