What is it about minimum wage?

The thing about minimum wage is that it must be able to bear a high enough personal income tax because everybody must participate in nation building, it must be able to afford a comfortable lifestyle for a single person and maybe two people on minimum wage should be able to raise a kid if they live together and the minimum wage earner must also be able to save

In fixing minimum wage, transportation costs is always an issue which is why many employers end up providing accommodation for minimum wage workers in Nigeria. Transportation costs in the case of a large city and cost of rent in highbrow cities are the reasons minimum wage can not be uniform across-the-board. If the government can solve the cost of living variance across cities it will be easier and it will only remain the issue of transportation costs which companies address sometimes by offering accomodations

The higher the minimum wage, the better for the government since the government is taking personal income tax from it but this is not the case in countries that exempt minimum wage workers from tax or that do not enforce minimum wage on all employers.

It does not make sense for a minimum wage to be so high in any country to the extent that some minimum wage workers can end up saving ninety percent or more of the wages per month. This will be the case in Nigeria if the AAC wins the Presidential elections and they implement a five hundred thousand naira per month minimum wage.

Minimum wage should be as low as possible. What is important is for the worker to be able to save a reasonable percentage of it because if you have a too high minimum wage in your country, the economy will lose some competitive edge. If minimum wage in Nigeria is three hundred thousand naira per month, workers in Nigeria will be able to afford more but the average cost of production in the country will move up and manufacturing jobs will move abroad to countries with one hundred and fifty thousand naira minimum wage as a consequence as an example and without government subsidies even the local farmers may not be able to compete.

Therefore for an economy to be competitive the minimum wage must not be too high and what the government should focus on are things like equalizing the cost of living across different cities as well as making public transportation as cheap as possible. The minimum wage only needs to be high enough for a single person to live well, pay tax and other deductions and still be able to save. Minimum wage is a starting point and people are supposed to work their way up from it.

Lol. Lawani the hardened communist don begin again. Minimum wage, ideally , should be a direct reflection of the ability of nations to be productive and successful.

If it is even $4,000 dollars a month, no problem as long as it is facilitating good and socio-economically productive lives for the citizens of a nation.

So in Ilesa.here where it is possible to live comfortably as a single person with less than hundred dollars a month, they should make 4000 dollars per month the minimum wage so that a bachelor who is sensible can save 3900 dollars every month? To do what with it?

You don't get the point. Some issues, like minimum wage, define themself naturally and holistically.

It is not for you, because your mentality is communist, to determine what it should be nor suggest a cap be put on it.

Government determine minimum wage based on what they believe is the minimum amount all employers should pay that will allow citizens live comfortably.

But what you are saying is not different from what I am saying it is just that you are probably a capitalist trying to oppose communism for properly defining what a minimum wage should be when even capitalists use the same definition without acknowledging it. I think you are in the UK? Can a minimum wage enable someone to save ninety percent of income in any part of the UK? It can be possible with a manager but not possible for minimum wage workers anywhere on Earth.

Minimum wage enforced by government as you say is to make sure no one is being exploited

I like your personality because it shows you reflect on problems of society deeply. I think your idealist and communist leaning is what I have an issue with.

Minimum wage cannot be capped and should not have anything to do with what anyone can save after meeting their living expenses.

Minimum wage should be for governments to revise and set purely based on what citizens need, as a minimum, to meet their living obligations.
