“My money is my money, his money is for all of us” – Woman sparks debate with bold views on marriage

A Muslim woman has sparked reactions online after sharing her views on marriage, finances, and the responsibilities of a husband in the home.

According to a now-viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), she argued that a husband should be solely responsible for providing for the family, while a wife’s earnings remain exclusively hers.

In her words, she said:

“My husband cannot say I should come and pay school fees with him. It’s not done. My money is my money. His money is for all of us. He has to provide everything.”

She explained that her position is based on her understanding of Islamic teachings, maintaining that a man is expected to cater for his family’s needs regardless of his wife’s financial status.

“You can’t pick a child from Banana Island and take her to Agege. How will she survive? You can’t pick a child that has grown up with maids and chefs and everybody around, then ask her to come and do her laundry by herself,” she added.

Her comments have generated mixed reactions online, with some agreeing that a husband should bear the primary responsibility of providing for the household, while others insisted that marriage should be a partnership involving shared responsibilities.

The video continues to trend on social media as Nigerians debate gender roles, financial obligations, and expectations in marriage.

Let them make you keep producing children; you are the one that will suffer to train the producer and the produced...and when you are old and can no longer provide, the producer will go stay with the produced.
Men must receive sense by force!

She is 100% correct,in Islam,it is the husband's duty to provide for the household.
No matter how rich the wife is, it is not compulsory for her to provide but she can support the household.

Al rijal qawwamun ala nisa" (الرِّجَالُ قَوَّٰمُونَ عَلَى ٱلنِّسَآءِ) is a well-known phrase from the 34th verse of Surah An-Nisa in the Quran (4:34). It translates to: "Men are the protectors and maintainers of women".The verse outlines the foundational roles and responsibilities within a marriage in Islam.
Its core concepts are:
Maintenance and Protection: The verse states that men are designated as caretakers because God has given them strengths to excel over others, and because they are required to spend their wealth to provide for and protect their families.

Reciprocal Rights: Scholars emphasize that this role implies heavy responsibilities rather than absolute authority. Men are required to ensure the financial security, physical safety, and overall well-being of their families.

This woman is right! According to Islam, a woman's money belongs to her. So the woman is right in determining that in her Islamic marriage, her money should belong to her. Unfortunately for her, the arrangement also determines that since she is her husband's property in marriage, he can decide whether she can work during the marriage or not. 😒

For non-Islamic marriages, however, these rules do not apply at all. 😒

I am a man and most of the married women I know, including my own relatives, are helping their husbands financially, some are even the bread winners. All these talks of "my money is my money" is unrealistic for someone who really wants to get married.

Gone are the days when men used to earn significantly higher than women. Nowadays, most women are working and earning, some even earn far more than their husbands, so how do you run a family while earning money and expecting your husband to foot all bills. It doesn't work that way.

So after she employed him, he went to marry second wife? Okunrin! 😩

Lol! I didn't even listen to anything she said. That line of owning all her money and co-owning her husband's already told me she isn't balanced.

In spite of my issues with Aisha, for the time and place the man was progressive

It was simply a fact of life at the time.

And Old school Arabs were far more fked than these red pill wan kers

They were literally burying baby girls alive.

That was one of the first things that was put a stop to

..... Most of the Nigeria Muslims live in the North which is also the most impoverished segment of the country, in these situations how can poor men provide for their multiple wives if they adhere to Islamic teachings, or is that why we see most northern women in IDP camps or begging as a profession in the south.
