Land Racketeering: Abuja Homeowners Beg Wike For Help by CapitalLens(op): 5:14pm On May 31
Homeowners at Dr. Sam Nujoma Estate in Galadimawa, Abuja, have appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to intervene over alleged security threats, assault, and extortion by developer El Salem Nigeria Limited.

In a complaint letter to the FCT Administration’s Legal Secretariat, the chairman of the estate resident association, Echefu Ifeanyi, said the house owners legitimately purchased the land and built and they are not tenants.

He alleged that officials of El Salem have refused to hand over management despite not having any more land to sell and have kept instigating private guards to threaten and assault the people.

Ifeanyi said the estate, on plot 21 in the Cadastral zone C17, Industrial Area II was originally allocated to the African University of Science and Technology in 2007. The university later entered into a sublease agreement with El Salem, which named the estate after Dr. Sam Nujoma and brought in eight other developers without FCTA approval.

He added that the site was designated in the FCTA development plan as a students’ hostel and not for other purposes.

The Chairman urged the Minister to help put measures in place to help Homeowners obtain their Rights of Occupancy and Certificate of Occupancy.

Confirming the development, FCTA Director of Investigation and Prosecution in the Legal Department, Joseph Eriki, in a letter of response to the Nigeria Police Force -CID, advised the police to arrest officials of El Salem and anyone claiming approval for purposes other than education.

He also accused the university of unilaterally changing the land use without government consent.

On the sublease and resulting criminal activities, Country Director of the African University of Science and Technology, Mr. Adekoya Seyi, said discussions were ongoing to resolve the matter.

“We are not unaware of the issues. Discussions are ongoing and will soon be resolved. However, I am not going to yield to the demands of the FCTA Legal Department Director,” Seyi said.

Efforts to get a response from El Salem Nigeria Limited Executive Director, Mr. Michael Onyebuchi, were unsuccessful as he did not answer or return calls.

When the righteous rule the people rejoice but when the Wike'd rule the people suffer...

Tomorrow they will say government is wicked. How do convert lands meant for educational purposes to private use without government approval?

I trust Wike, he will soon deal with this El-Salem and African University of Science and Technology over this land racketeering scheme.

How can you lure innocent Nigerians into a Build, Lease and transfer Agreement without full disclosure and without authorization by the FCT Administration? What manner of lawlessness is that.

After getting huge land in prime location and C of O for next to nothing, you now want to subject Nigerians to untold hardship through an unlawful scheme. How can you expect a civil servant to hand over his residential accommodation which he built with his life savings, under the guise of BLT. Do you think any right thinking person will go into such agreement if they are informed?

Wike should deal with these guys the same way he dealt with River Park Estate to save Nigerians from further falling prey to their dubious land scheme.

Those that bought the lands also have their own faults, they did not get competent people or legal representatives to carry out proper investigations, if they did, they would have been able to discover the original purpose of that land. If una meet Wike after him don take him 40 years old whiskey, him go collect that land from both of una and allocate to another person. Una go go court go explain tire
Re: Land Racketeering: Abuja Homeowners Beg Wike For Help by waice6571: 7:11am On Jun 01
All the parties are wrong, this is a big problem for everyone of them, especially the house owners in the estate.

The c-of-o would return void to FCDA (I.e. withdrawn) and new land documents will be issued with new purpose clause other than previous "educational purpose clause " and new owner.
This can only be settled after several court cases.

Wike Boasts Of Helping APC Use Judiciary To Kill Osun LG Funds Case, Warns Party Leaders Against Ingratitude

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly boasted that he assisted certain elements within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in deploying the judiciary to frustrate the Osun State local government allocation lawsuit.

In a video now circulating widely on social media and obtained by SaharaReporters, Wike made the claim while addressing a crowd in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The former Rivers governor accused the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, of benefitting from judicial actions against the Osun State Government without knowing those who did the work behind the scenes.

The suit in question led to the withholding of local government funds in Osun State, a development widely seen as targeting the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as opposition in the state.

Wike, who spoke angrily, suggested that the court action supporting the APC’s position against the Osun government did not happen by chance, boasting that powerful political forces worked quietly to ensure the outcome.

“Don’t take our support for Mr President for granted,” Wike warned, in an apparent message to APC leaders defending Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. “You have to be careful about the statements you make. You have to be very careful.”

He accused Basiru of political ingratitude, claiming the APC was enjoying in Osun State without understanding who engineered their advantage.

“Today, you are enjoying in Osun. You don’t know those who did the work,” Wike said. “You are opening your mouth to talk about Rivers State.”
