How Biafra Remembrance Day Was Celebrated All Over The World - Pictures by attackgat(op): 1:57pm On May 31

May 30th of ever year is Biafra day, or Biafran remembrance day. It is a day certain people, mainly of the Igbo ethnic group, set aside to remember those they lost in the Biafran war. While Nigeria has January 15th as a day to remember the war dead, most Igbos no longer have any regard for that date

On 30th May 1967, the military Governor of the Eastern Region, Lt Col Ojukwu, declared the Eastern Region a seperate state called Biafra. It triggered a three year war in which millions died.

May 30 has evolved and is now seen as de facto "National Igbo Day"
