I watched the video of Ayetoro and I wonder how they allowed the government to rest up till this point.

The video is heartbreaking

Ayetoro is part of Ilaje land, Aiyedatiwa an ilaje man should do something about this mess

This kind of thing was happening in VI before the Eko Atlantic City was created

Bad government wants to enrapture Nigeria.

If you've been to Benue, you would think it was an aftermath of war. The worse roads in Nigeria.

Before anyone comes here and spew trash claiming it's bs climate change that is causing this coastal erosion let me tell you the real reason for this.

When you build concrete buildings on sandy beach close to the ocean's waterline, the weight of the building sinks into the ground preventing sandy soil beneath from resisting the ocean waves .

The ocean waves don't just hit the surface of the beach but are also moving underneath the sand bed.

A typical Nigerian concrete house weighs at least 90,000 tonnes and that is for a one storey building. That weight displaces soil beneath and the concrete foundation is no match in resisting underwater ocean waves.

The waves are supposed to deposit and take back some sand but when the waves encounter a concrete foundation it takes more sand away from beneath the soil surface.

This process is referred to liquification.

Building solid concrete structures on sandy beach land in proximity to the ocean coastline is what led to this scenario .

It will only continue to get progressively worse unless the buildings are removed completely from the shore line.

In the US you are not allowed to build such structures near the ocean beach instead the weight is distributed via wooden stilts .

A typical Nigerian concrete design one storey house of say 100m2 size weighing 90 000 tonnes has a force distribution of 90 tonnes per sq meter on the surface.

The people who built on this patch of ocean beach are the ones causing this erosion.

If in doubt , move in any direction east or west of this settlement that is yet to be developed and you will see that the ocean line remains intact.

For reference here is what concrete structure does to a beach line.

The image below is of concrete piers on a coastline in Israel.

You can see how the ocean has eroded sand from underneath the piers in a circular arc.

The only time I will blame the govt is for allowing them to erect such structures so close to the coastline.

The buildings themselves are what is causing the erosion.

VI coastal erosion on the bar beach was caused by sandfilling and then building on the Lekki wet lands .

The wet lands in Lekki were natural barriers made up of shifting sand shoals that took the impact of the ocean waves preventing ocean surge into the mainland and lagoon.

When those wet lands were sandfilled, the waves then moved to neighbouring bar beach and started the erosion there.

Now that Eko Atlantic has recovered most of the eroded bar beach, the waves are now moving back to reclaim Lekki .

Lekki was never supposed to be so massively developed.

It's just a matter of time before the same thing you are seeing on this beach in Ayetoro begin to repeat itself on Lekki.
