Hohenheim:There is nothing peak about what Gunn is doing.. The costumes are no different from what we got from the CW shows - poor and chip looking costumes. Even Superman Returns that many complained of being boring still has sensible and believable plot than the utterly trash movie that was made for kids... One problem the current DCU has is hype; building hype and maintaining it. There's also the fact that the whole thing feels like a cheap CW series, no offense. Right now, nothing has practically convinced me to want to see Supergirl or even Man of Tomorrow and Lanterns. Usually, we are supposed to have at least an A list star attached to each of these projects or even a known or established director, writer and producer. Right now, I don't even know who the director of Supergirl is. The person I feel for is the actress who deserves recognition for her talent. |

SMUAG:I don't know who asked James Gunn to greenlit this movie. It's not like DCU doesn't have anything else to release this year. You have HBO Lanterns series from the Damon Lindelof and Co. Same guy that made the critically acclaimed HBO Watchmen. There's Clayface too. A low budget horror movie that will not make or break the DCU. That is enough. Supergirl is very risky venture. The budget alone is crazy. $175m for a D-list female superhero. Female superhero are not well received nowadays. Not since Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman in 2019 and 2017 respectively. Every female led CBM since Endgame has failed. Bird of Prey Wonder Woman 1984 Black Widow The Marvel's. Thunderbolts. The failure of Supergirl should be a wake up call for James Gunn. If it's not Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman. It should not carry a budget of $100m+. 1 Like |

Hohenheim:James Gunn is a good director but he has a lot to learn as a producer. Hiring an inexperienced writer to write your $170m movie is one thing, doubling down and giving her Wonder Woman and Teen Titans too is a huge red flag. Her first big writing gig is a disaster and James Gunn gave her two more. How hard is it to find a competent writer in Hollywood  1 Like
