Honestly, this will be one of the most significant changes this country has witnessed since independence. It is time states are empowered to secure their territories. And with power will come responsibility. So that the Federal Government can focus and specialize on national security and stability. It is absolutely not the business of the Federal authorities if a robbery or an abduction takes place in any state except if the crime is linked to other crimes or groups operating outside and beyond the authority of any one state. This will be an unprecedented achievement of this government if done well. It cannot come soon enough. More boots on the ground. Better understanding of situations, greater trust of authorities. |

jmoore:You see I am an ijesa man. A nation formed over 1000 years ago that has had 48 kings so far. We have a traditional capital at Ilesa and we have shifted capital seven times. There are over 300 settlements on the land from cities to towns to villages. We have defended the land for over one thousand years. It is a defacto sovereign state. Don't you think this your statement is insultive to people like the Ijesa people? I tell you it is very insultive indeed. Please stop making such statements |

Although creating state police is a good thing considering the insecurity we are currently battling in the country but at the same time I hope this won't be another war to the citizens on the long run due to police brutality. My opinion if I could be heard, is that state policing will increase police brutality tremendously if not handled proactively and effectively by the law. Adequate trainings and mental checks must also be done routinely to those force men so we don't create another monsters. NOTE: Don't be surprised to later hear that bandits are also recruited into the state police job eventually to sabotage the new approach. So the recruitment processes must be very rigid, thoroughly srutinized and also fair. |

State police shall pave the way for nigeria break up. Each state will have tha apparatus to maintain law and order. Nigeria isnt ready for state police as Jonathan once weighed, it just Tunibu has other agenda. |
| Re: State Police Constitutional Framework Near Completion - Bayo Onanuga by Mrexcell(m): 9:30am On Jun 05 |
jmoore:It's better for state governors to abuse it than allowing fulani terrorists to be terrorising innocent nigerians unchallenged because nigerian governors don't have powers to order for their arrests in their states. |

| Re: State Police Constitutional Framework Near Completion - Bayo Onanuga by lawani(m): 9:47am On Jun 05 |
zeyt:You don't have the means to keep Nigeria together by force either. You have to be ready for breakup because it can happen anytime. Tell your governor to sit up. A state with millions of residents do not need any money from outside |

Mrexcell:Well-said. No Nigerian annoys me more than those saying Governors will abuse State Police. Nigerians are dying like chickens daily, innocent children are being kidnapped. Teachers beheaded. Women raped and violated by bandits and terrorists. Yet some are talking of Governors abusing State police? How many serious political opponents do most Governors have? Pata pata 20 or so. How foolish is it to say state Policing should not arrive because a Governor will bully 20 to 30 of his politician rivals yet thousands of Nigerians are being killed by opportunist savages? |

| Re: State Police Constitutional Framework Near Completion - Bayo Onanuga by WizardOfNG: 10:23am On Jun 05 |
lawani:Well-said. Nigerian leaders, because many are about what they wish to eat, have made most Nigerians Ostriches who bury their head in the sand. We are very different. We managed fake 'one Nigeria' unity for decades but that Chicken has come home to roost. We must now talk honestly with each other to agree to disagree. Let everyone go and live how they wish to. Recognising we are different, is the beginning of understanding how we can live together peacefully. |
| Re: State Police Constitutional Framework Near Completion - Bayo Onanuga by Reference(m): 10:37am On Jun 05 |
WizardOfNG:Honestly Nigerians are highly irresponsible. Yes, I agree there is a possibility of abuse, just as Federal Police has and is being misused and their powers sometimes abused, but should we disband the Federal police for that reason. We are talking about the problem of inadequacy, of caoacity. The lack of size and depth of the Federal Police. The unpoliced spaces scattered around the country that criminals exploit. Thirty years ago the bulk of high criminality was urbane in nature and the worst of rural crime was about highway men. Today the situation has completely reversed. The criminals have gone deep into the woods, the rural areas. Even those abducted in towns are now taken far away from the knowlwege and capabilities of the Federal police. And finally concerning responsibility. It is far, far, far easier to hold a governor in charge of a state police accountable than the a President in charge of a Federal police and is backed by the Armed forces and secret services. A governor has limited powers. The only defence he has is the immunity clause that can and should be revised to limit it scope. Moreover the Federal police will always step into cases that escalate and threaten to become national embarrassment. The whole point is for the citizens to be vigilant and active in holding their leaders accountable. |

WizardOfNG:Yes those campaigning for unity can not say exactly why. There is no unit without it's GDP and the oil money is a measly less than 3 percent of the GDP. |

I hope they can expedite actions on the security reforms and save us the bureaucracy involved I know Tinubu is taking steps to curb the spate of insecurity which we all know is highly political, going by the gaint stride this administration as made to revamp our economy and building a stronger foundations for the development of the country. He did it in Lagos, even though some bitter losers tried to water down his achievements in office as the former governor of Lagos. The security architecture of the country needs to be reformed, this will be a long term solution to the security challenges faced by the country and we hope the NA will expedite work on this and not play politics with human lives……Nigeria shall win and all enemies of the country will be put to shame and disgraced ![]() |

Parachoko:Private Security Infrastructure is needed..(the type that will legalize Private Military/Paramilitary Companies) just like Bancroft Global in the US, SADAT in Turkeye, Dyck Advisory Group(DAG) In South Africa, Wagner Group in Russia etc. Give companies license to own private military for Hire.... What we will call Legal Gun For Hire(Aka MERCINARIES) Don't give Governors that much power with state police, it will birth Chaos |

Parachoko:Behave like state police while maintaining the correct structure of legislature. Ie those officers from Bornu state should work in Bornu state, those from ago should only work in Lagos and those from Rivers should only work in Rivers simple. |

jmoore:Let's wait to see the safeguards in the state policing framework! That will determine whether it will function or fail! I hope there will public hearing on state policing where every stakeholder is adequately represented! |
| Re: State Police Constitutional Framework Near Completion - Bayo Onanuga by cedricksly: 11:52am On Jun 05 |
erico2k2:that's why I said the infrastructure is needed... Laws guiding operations and all, you only see them when contracted to carry out a mission, you have to have a military/intelligence background before such license can be given.. When there is negative complain about a particular company, the company can be held accountable and people will go to prison and the company license can be revoked.. I mean you chain them, just with a little longer leach than normal..... Either this or get a Robust Crime Data Base and legalize certain fire Arms.(domt legalize assault rifle or simi automatic weapons) short guns ans pistol is Enough. I used to hate America for legalizing gun, but I now see that in nigeria it will do more good than arm at this point of our lives. |

Moroccoguy:The highlighted is exactly why there should be safeguards on state policing! This was one of the reasons why in the 80s citizens clamoured for central policing during a period where we had regional and community policing controlled by traditional rulers! If state policing must function effectively and efficiently, control from the state governors should be minimized except for funding! |

For how long have you people been talking about that? The country is burning because of Fulani and Islam and you people remain unconcerned and slow. What happened to fast tracking that state police idea. |
