It is difficult to describe the pain and destruction that banditry and kidnapping have brought upon our beloved country. Families live in fear. Travellers embark on journeys with uncertainty. Many have lost their loved ones, properties, and peace of mind.

What is even more painful is that some of these criminals claim to act in the name of Islam. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Islam is a religion of mercy, justice, and security. The Prophet ﷺ said:

«الْمُسْلِمُ مَنْ سَلِمَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ وَيَدِهِ»

"A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe."
(Bukhari and Muslim)

How then can people who terrorize communities, abduct innocent souls, and spill blood claim to represent Islam?

Allah says concerning those who wage war against society and spread corruption on earth:

"Indeed, the recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive to spread corruption on earth is that they be executed, crucified, have their hands and feet cut off from opposite sides, or be exiled from the land..."
(Qur'an 5:33)

And Allah says:

"And We prescribed for them therein: a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, and an ear for an ear..."
(Qur'an 5:45)

Sadly, some people have become so accustomed to these atrocities that they now regard them as normal occurrences. But there is nothing normal about a society where people are afraid to travel, farmers are afraid to cultivate their lands, and families live in fear of receiving ransom calls.

Islam came to preserve five fundamental objectives: religion, life, intellect, lineage, and property. Banditry and kidnapping attack all of these objectives. Hence, Islam treats such crimes with the seriousness they deserve.
The Qur'anic punishments are not acts of cruelty; rather, they are acts of justice and deterrence. Their purpose is to protect innocent lives and ensure that evil does not become widespread.


"And there is life for you in retaliation, O people of understanding." (Qur'an 2:179)

Indeed, when criminals know that justice will be swift and certain, crimes are drastically reduced and society enjoys peace and security.

At the same time, we should intensify our prayers, support lawful authorities in combating these evils, and educate our children upon the true teachings of Islam, so that they do not fall prey to extremist ideologies that have nothing to do with our noble religion.

May Allah protect our country from bandits, kidnappers, and all agents of insecurity. May He return peace to our communities, comfort those who have lost their loved ones, grant freedom to those in captivity, and guide our leaders to establish justice with wisdom and fairness.
