GloriousGbola:Its easier to do in an autocratic society like Russia or North Korea If you remember their Kursk submarine issue too, when the Russian submarine was sinking, An American and one Scandinavian country naval ship were close by to help, Russia said they should rather let the sailors die which they all died and their families "were understanding" Hostage taking only matter when you care about the lives of the hostage I recall hearing from someone that the Israeli policy on plane hijack changed to "regardless of any threat or casualty, the pilot should never pen the cockpit, even if they kill all the passengers" |

I've always asked what we benefit from this Borno state.. Since I picked interest in Nigeria affairs, I've hardly heard or seen any good news from this state.. Can't count how many soldiers we've lost in this same state, now beheading of soldiers has happened in the same state.. https://x.com/i/status/2062852826275950818

GloriousGbola:It's actually a very string allegation that DSS under OBJ paid MEND which was actually a terrorist group. I've never heard of it nor read about it before till today. What he opened at best was that those expats that were kidnapped back then in the naija Delta had their ransom paid by the IOCs they are working for. Till date most IOCs and even indigenous companies working in the Niger delta have an insurance policy called "Kidnap and Ransom" policy under which they always recover any ransom they pay to kidnappers who kidnap their staff. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 3:00pm On Jun 05 |
BlueRayDick:let me clarifiy - i did not say DSS paid the ransom - i said DSS agents delivered the ransom payment to MEND and as a naija matter, you will always get your own kickback for services rendered and it all goes down from there |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 3:03pm On Jun 05 |
BlueRayDick:There was an open Amnesty program for MEND militants where they were paid a bulk and monthly stipend to stop kidnapping, I am not sure if it was under OBJ or YarAdua |

CrystalTiger:Do u know the crazy thing? Borno, Yobe and Adamawa used to be very peaceful parts of the North in the past. They were kinda peaceful than all those Kano, Kaduna, Plateau etc. that used to experience crisis frequently. Borno and Adamawa in particular had Christians in large quantity compared to what you have in states like Kano, Sokoto. University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) used to be a choice school for people all over the country. It is one of the major export of Borno state I think Boko Haram festering in Borno is not just random, was a deliberate attempt to rid that part of the country the large population of Christians they have there. When I was in serving, the bulk of kids that were transferred from all those Boko Haram affected states to other Unity schools under Jonathan government's scholarship were majority Christians. Most of those kids had horror stories to tell about how they lost their families, how they had to stop school and even their IDP camps were still further attacked by the Boko Haram guys. |

monerozi5590:Most Southerners I can say 75% cannot tell the difference. To most of us Hausa and Fulanis are interchangeable, Infact anyone speaking Hausa or any similar language is suspect. Most Northerners including Fulani speak Hausa, So anyone speaking Hausa is suspect, Make devil come help you dey fair in complexion small. DNA test completed Shikena |

GloriousGbola:I'm hearing it from you for the first time that DSS ever delivered payment to MEND. I never read or heard about it till now. Do u honestly think MEND would trust DSS as escrow for money they(MEND) did all the work? I serious doubt this thing wey u talk. Maybe If I see a credible source write about it sha , I fit believe. To the best of my knowledge, Most of those foreign owned companies have ex- British Army officers, Ex-Special forces officers as their head of security who have had experience in hostage negotiation. Na them dey deal directly with the MEND guys. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by chrisooblog: 3:16pm On Jun 05 |
Not sure if it was FG rather than IOCs paying ransom then to Niger Delta militants. No doubt the kidnapping "industry" began from the OBJ era. Even the Islamic terrorists of today the seeds were sown in the OBJ era. GloriousGbola: |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 3:17pm On Jun 05 |
BlueRayDick:maybe they have these types today, but when kidnapping started (in 2006) the roles of security for oil companies did not involve hostage negotiation with armed militias |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 3:17pm On Jun 05 |
raumdeuter:It was Yar Adua that granted amnesty to Niger Delta Militants in which he called for them to submit their arms and register under the amnesty program. Amnesty began 2009 , 2 years after OBJ exited the scene |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 3:19pm On Jun 05 |
raumdeuter:personally i am also feeling paranoid because in the end you do not know what is in the mind of anyone and yoiu cannot tell what they will do if they feel they have an upper hand |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 3:22pm On Jun 05 |
GloriousGbola:I met one of them last year ,he was reeling out how he worked in the Niger Delta for one of the major IOCs as head security. He said as part of his portfolio he oversaw resolution of over 50 kidnap cases by leading negotiation and giving tactical advice. |

GloriousGbola:MEND got bombed by OBJ. The northern guys are being protected. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 3:34pm On Jun 05 |
CodeTemplar:MEND was not bombed by OBJ please stop this revisionism mend was so successful that the IOS have largely relocated out of the ND since the 2000s what i recall was obj was shopping for drones to use to flush militants out but he could not get them during his administration |

GloriousGbola:Oga this is a load of bollocks and just another way to look for any and every means to excuse Tinubu's incomeptence. So criminals with access to weapons and an unrestrained blood lust will start picking and choosing what crimes to commit and not commit because of kidnapping that happened in the 2000s under OBJ...hahaha. The other day it was offshoot of the fall of Libya and terrorism across the Sahel that was responsible for Tinubu's failures in security, today it's OBJ that's made kidnapping the booming business it has become under tinubu/APC. Maybe you'd also come and say it's Nigeria's inability to persecute r#pe crimes under Shagari that make people commit r#pe crimes today, or seeing the bravado of Anini is why Boko Haram robs bank, or the popularity of Prison Break in early 2000s is responsible for their attack on prisons. Excuses no dey finish...speak up against incomeptence with strong voice, your state has almost been runover. |

Kidnapping back then was targeted oil wokers, extremely rich people capable of paying ransom. It affects few people at once. Today mass adoption, poor, rich, wretched, of bandit see wheelbarrow pusher or gala hawker they will kidnap the person and demand millions. GloriousGbola: |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 3:53pm On Jun 05 |
GloriousGbola:MEND was formed towards the end of OBJ's tenure. Before MEND there were different factions of Niger Delta militants causing havoc in different parts of Niger Delta. To be fair, OBJ's government was more of their enemy because OBJ gave the security forces go ahead to go gun blazing against the militants back then. As much as the militants were being pummeled by the military, the swampy terrain of the naija Delta and the creeks gave them enough cover to operate and carry out kidnap for ransom wella. I guess Yar Adua didn't want to spend most of his time in office fighting the militants who were seriously impacting our oil output as at that time, so he brought up the amnesty program to put an end to the militancy in the Niger delta. The militants who keyed into the amnesty program became big men and kings in the naija Delta, and those that were busy shouting ASAWANA say dem no go gree were Unalived eventually. |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by chrisooblog: 3:58pm On Jun 05 |
Yep, Yar Adua resulted to amnesty when initial military action wasn't working. I think his more laid back nature plus the political blackmail of the optics of a Northern President bombing Southern minorities made him capitulate and agree to Amnesty. BlueRayDick: |

Sportsweb:Na from clap dance dey start When they cant kidnap rich people they go for middle class and poor people Same thing during any breakdown of law and order, They start from the top and the breakfast goes round During Endsars, normal people driving Lexus became "our oppressors" which some of the hoodlums started attacking |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 4:05pm On Jun 05 |
chrisooblog:Not necessarily so. The thing is what the Niger Deltans were protesting for back then, they had some merits. They were battling environmental degradation, neglect of the region for key government infrastructure, etc. It was more like Yar Ardua saw some merits in their demands and not necessarily about capitulating. The Niger Delta terrain is also difficult to conduct sustained military operation without unaliving countless innocent people . |

Those Fulanis are staying in bush with their animals far from normal civilization. Their ways and thinking are totally different. They destroy Hausas farms here and just leave, that is to tell you how those Fulanis that are staying in bush think |
