Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mannir Dan Iya, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections in Sokoto State.

Dan-Iya emerged after the party conducted its governorship primary election involving delegates from the 244 wards across the 23 local government areas of the state.

The Chief Returning Officer of the exercise, Prof. Aminu Abubakar Illela, said Dan-Iya polled 52,831 votes across the state.

“Consequently, I hereby declare you as the ADC candidate for the 2027 general elections,” he said.



In his acceptance speech, Dan-Iya thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and accepted the mandate given to him.

He pledged to work hard and expressed optimism that the ADC would defeat the ruling party in the forthcoming elections.

Dan-Iya also appreciated the support of party leaders in the state, especially former governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, and called for unity among party members.

Speaking at the event, the party leader in the state, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said the ADC was optimistic of victory, noting that ADC had given many youths opportunities to contest in the coming elections.

He urged members to remain patient and resilient, while stressing the need for free and fair elections across the country.

Dan-Iya served as deputy governor under Tambuwal’s administration between 2018 and 2023 and was recently chosen as the party’s consensus candidate among 10 aspirants who had earlier shown interest in the governorship race, including Senator representing Sokoto East, Ibrahim Lamido; former ambassador to Jordan, Faruk Malami Yabo; former Minister of Transportation, Yusuf Suleiman; and former PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, Saidu Umar.

He has diehard loyallists,he's a world class politician, has allies everywhere, is very diplomatic, has structure, can negotiate and bargain. Having money is one thing, knowing how to deploy it is another. So many politicians have money yet they are failures. Apart from the obidient movement, obi is a political failure

World-class is when you HAVE A MOVEMENT that others can say you may be a loser, but you succeed in building.

Having zombified and moblike movement is not world class politics but navigating victories from impossible situations. Can obi win primaries in any party? Can obi support multiple candidates to win, can obi install governors and even a president? Could obi have won the Apc ticket if he was faced by with hurdles tinubu faced? You clearly do not know politics hence your stance

Owning the loyalty of the majority is POLITICS.

Because to you, owning 35 governors is more important than owning ALL Nigerians.
That is why your TINUBU is never referred to as a world-class politician.
His politics dies when the current nature of politics practiced IN NIGERIA dies.

Tinubu is a world class politician that's why he has been in the game since 1990 with heavy success. Obi has the money and dollars but refusing to deploy it hypocritically is bad politics. Tinubu has his tentacles outside Nigeria. He has helped install presidents in Ghana, Guinea, has allies in France, UK, Us which obi can never have. How many allies does obi has? The only political advantage obi has is his movement which shows how limited and poor he is politically.
If Tinubu success is just based on money, he would have failed by now. It is beyond money. It encompasses so many things which obi lacks. Can obi form a party, build it, settle disputes? I know you love obi but he is politically below Tinubu
