8-month Pregnant Woman Drags Husband To Court, Seeks Divorce Over Alleged Neglec by Monzabets(op): 9:39am On Jun 07
An eight-month pregnant housewife, Halima Yusuf, has approached an Upper Area Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, seeking legal confirmation of her divorce from her husband over allegations of neglect and physical abuse.

According to the petitioner, the marriage was contracted under Islamic law, but the relationship has deteriorated to the point where she can no longer continue with it.

Halima told the court that her husband allegedly failed to fulfill his responsibilities as a husband, claiming he neither provided adequate food nor catered for her welfare and healthcare needs during the marriage. She also accused him of physically assaulting her on several occasions.

The expectant mother informed the court that she is currently eight months pregnant and has been forced to live with her parents in Mararaba due to the challenges she has faced in the marriage.

In her petition, she asked the court to officially confirm the divorce and compel her husband to take responsibility for the pregnancy and the welfare of the unborn child.

Following her submission, the presiding judge, Mohammed Yakubu, adjourned the matter until June 11, 2026, for further hearing.

The case has sparked conversations about marital responsibilities, especially towards pregnant women, and the importance of providing emotional, financial, and medical support during pregnancy.

What do you think?

Should a husband be legally compelled to provide financial and medical support for a pregnant wife even after separation, or should both parties settle such issues outside the courtroom?

Drop your thoughts below.

He should be compelled legally, traditionally, and religiously to provide financial and medical support for his pregnant wife even after separation, because that baby is equally his.

I think you are absolutely right. That child in the womb should not be allowed to suffer what he/she doesn't know about.

But the woman sued him to court, what if after the court process that the man is not guilty of this allegations, and they finally divorce anyway, would he now take responsibility of all these things 🤔 🙄

First and foremost, the hubby might not be responsible for the pregnancy.
The hubby probably had threatened for a DNA after delivery, and the wife is now seeking for a safe landing.
The whole divorce sh!t is just a smokescreen

Let's stop hearing from one side of the story every time. Do you know if it's not the wife nagging him at home? Some pregnant women can do and undo, if you know the way they play their mind games.

Most times, men are always at the receiving end. Men are putting their lives on the line to take care of their family, but most women do not care because in their mind, they enjoy playing the frustration games on the man.

Majority of the fault in the family is always caused by women. Go and research it.

No one is talking about if the crazy guy is even earning enough to do all that's expected of him

By the dead gods, I suspect he's one of those with huge joysticks but empty pockets. He's done what he could possibly do... Get the stupid girl pregnant.

Islamic law forbids divorce? They joined through Islamic law and are now troubling the non-Islamic courts to grant separation?

Humans and dubiousness....

She has some very good grounds for divorce because of the physical torture (that can harm the baby) and the man's neglect but I hear you too. I was just thinking, the changes women go through during pregnancy, are you sure she knows what she is doing? This can affect the baby after birth.

She is a housewife. You planted your seed in her and you are asking if you should be compelled to provide for her even after separation. Did anyone compel you to sleep with her and impregnate her? angry

The court will not let them go until after she gives birth and the man has to provide for his own child.

As a Muslim, if it was the man who wanted divorce, he just have to tell the wife, ' I divorce you, I divorce you, ' I divorce you, then the marriage is over.
What is the provision for divorce for a woman's need for divorce?

You cant eat your Cake and have it.
Marriage is a Contract and that Pregnancy is part of the Contract.
You break the Contract then its "clauses" are no longer binding on the Parties.

But i suspect that the real reason she wants a Divorce at this moment, is that she fears that the Man would discover the Child is not his!
She wants to use the Court to "lock him in", before he realizes this.

What if she tries to give birth and the child dies nko?

No Court will pronounce an Order, on a speculative outcome.
Women and Greed, are like Bread and Butter. grin grin

I think it is high time we all get over this BOOLSHXXT that itis a Man that sleeps with a Woman, during Sex.
It is a fat lie.

Two People have Sex, not one.
Both Enjoy it, not one
Both release body fluid (or what do you think all that "wetness" from a Woman is?)
Pregnancy is from bth of Them (One releases Sperm the other release Egg) which comes together to form a Baby.

Women must stop trying to use Sex to blackmail men.
Did anyone compel her to sleep with the Man?
