If you are a family man and money remains 100k in your account in Lagos, you will be so scared, as in, your BP can rise.
100k ? If I have 500k I will start begging around already coz that's not even up to a month money. Lagos is freaking expensive honestly if not for insecurity I was already considering relocating to a less populated neighbourhood.

We Dey suffer for naija, Walahi.
Since government failed to offer low cost housing estate like in the past, greedy developers took advantage. yet we have various ministry of housing both federal and state, recieving billions yearly but nothing to show for it.

“Lagos is super expensive. It is more expensive than Los Angeles. Aside from housing, every other thing in LA is not expensive. For instance, I am paying $12,000 monthly for my rent. Here you just pay your rent, and you’re good.”
I guess he means that he does not have to worry about generator, its fuel and intoxicating fumes as well as drinking water from shitty boreholes to have kwashiorkor potbelly. undecided

All because we use unevolved tribalistic zoning and rotation to share the national cake of corruption at local, state and federal levels.

The federal government is not responsible for water supply in cities and towns. This is the responsibility of states.

InvertedHammer:
/
It is by far better than Enugu.

500 gallons of water go for N20k. Multiply by 4 in a month, that's N80k. By extrapolation, that's N960k in a year on water alone. Why? Because the governor believes that clean and accessible water is the least of his worries. Yet they prance around like Enugu is Abuja even though the red muddy soil will have residents looking like they went tomb-raiding at night.

But then, considering where it was before Peter Mba, one can understand the accolades being that he moved the town from 16th Century to 17th Century but not anywhere near 20th Century. 21st Century is a stretch. EEDC? The worst of all.

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources in Lagos State, Mahmood Adegbite, has said that people drilling borehole in the Lekki axis of the state is probably drinking ‘’shit water.”

While speaking at a stakeholders meeting in the state recently, Adegbite noted that contaminated boreholes in Lekki pose health risk and added that treatment of waste water would eradicate any form of disease that may arise from it.

He said, “On waste water treatment, I will say that everyone digging borehole within the Lekki axis is probably drinking what I will call ‘shit water.’

I intentionally didn't want to say 200k because of some poverty stinking people here who are very poor, yet support their oppressor. Even the 100k I mentioned, I have seen one poverty stricken guy telling me it's a lie. He is probably living in a village where fruits and cassava are available for free.

Lagosians will disagree as they are slaves to the system.

They be screaming “Eko o ni baje” upandan with nothing to boast about.

The irony is that, same ones bear the brunt of the system but seems they just trapped in the system. They cannot demand better and just satisfied.

Splashme:
The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.

Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.

The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.

Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”

The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.

Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.

He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

It’s not as simple as “people don’t want to pay tax.” The bigger issue is that even when revenue is generated, the system often doesn’t translate it into reliable public services. That gap in accountability is why citizens still end up funding basic infrastructure privately.
Unfortunately it is.

Nigeria's tax to gdp ratio is way below the global standard, and way below the African standard.

Ghana is a country some people say better pass NIgeria. Ghana has a tax to gdp of 25%. Nigeria's own never pass 15%. And Ghana has the same issues with corruption and accountability as we do. (Spend some time on Ghana reddit. You go think say na Nigeria site you be)>

Also, when most of the population both rich and poor is not paying tax, they won't care about how tax money is spent, and that means they won;t pay attention and hold their government officials accountable.

Most Nigerians want to be like Saudi, with the flawed idea that oil money from 1.3 million bpd can give us the good life, when it cant. (Saudi also has a massive corruption problem...again because most saudis don't pay tax, and most don't care).

If you want your government to work, tax , and doing the hard work of holding them to account will work. Otherwise, nothing will change. The same thing you are complaining about, is what they said in the 1980's and even back in the 1960's.

The very reason Nigeria is in the economic mess its in right now,you ate away your surplus without investing in your society......if that same jakande you always love to refer to had insisted on building a good tax administration system, lagos would have been far more wealthy and more sustainable than it is right now......sanwo olu wouldn't still be bothered about building roads or schools.
Till date nigeria's total tax revenue is still at an abysmal 13% of gdp below the WB and IMF recommended 15% minimum, one ofvthe lowest in africa and you expect world class social amenities.

Compare the population now to what was in jakande era sanwo olu needs to cater for over 20m people with same space and limited resources and how much revenue the country was making considering the value of the naira at the time.....majority lagosians over 80% pay no taxes to govt.

The truth is that in Lagos, you're practically your own government. You provide your own electricity, security, water, waste disposal, and sometimes even road access to your area. Yet you're still paying taxes and various levies. By the time you add all these hidden costs together, living in Lagos can feel far more expensive than the figures on paper suggest. The difference is that in places like the US, many of these services are already built into the system, so you're mostly focused on your regular bills rather than constantly paying extra to compensate for failed public infrastructure
u are wise
