Why do u always dismiss people's pains as chasing clout ?

So u are saying her brother serving in the army did not die? or You are saying the people she has been talking to in the army have not requested N2m from her family to bring their son home ?

Like, do you think somebody will think of all the things she can use to chase clout and it is her brother's death she would use ?

You can say the story is crazy because if true, it shows how corrupt our military and government agencies are; but that it is not possible ? No now!
in this day and age people jump on the internet and say anything for clout and engagement the more horrible rhe story, the more the reactions garnered. did we not see that girl claiming she was ra ped the other day?

at least 50% of the people who cry out on social media are making up or embellishing stories
so my first instinct is to disbelieve, especially if the story sounds too ridiculous

are we to believe that different families of deceased soldiers have all been dropping millions for their lost ones remains to be sent home- especially as rank and file soldiers don't have that much money to begin with?

razambaza can probably clarify for us

so yes i ALWAYS dismiss peoples pains [brought to social media] as chasing clout tongue

And you've not seen worse acts of corruption from public officers and people in position of authority exploiting vulnerable people?

If you had said maybe the people in charge are trying to exploit her and the family and that the army authorities don't know about it officially, I would say u are being objective. But this one wey u just write the story off ehn.... It is well

It's more like u enjoy holding brief for people in power accused of wrong doing.

I'm sure if the army spokesperson comes out now to issue a terse statement saying the lady's claim are untrue u will believe it within a jiffy without asking any question.

Depends on location too sha.

$1m will likely make you top 5% in Lagos and Abuja but definitely not top 1%, but in places like Delta, Bayelsa, Edo, Akwa Ibom etc, you're comfortably in the top 1% if you have $1m.
Population of Lagos - 20m

1% of 20m is 200,000
5% of 20m is 1m

Google says there are 7,200 dollar millionaires in the whole Nigeria

Let's assume there are even 20,000 since politicians and civil servants hide stolen loot

I will posit that $1m makes you top 0.1% in Lagos

DSS has alerted Edo State government of potential mass kidnap of school children by Fulani terrorists.

The Edo state government in reaction has ordered immediate closure of government owned schools in the affected area. The students currently writing WAEC in the schools will however be allowed to write exams under strict security arrangements.

Omo! No be life we dey live for this country so o. Things has gotten to a point where students can't go to school like it's done in other countries.

What kind of politics is APC playing in Osun? Armed thugs really messed up Osogbo yesterday..To make matters worse, the state governor is accusing the commissioner of police of doing nothing..

This is good insight. This is why statistics is very important.
People in Lagos are too loud that is why it seems like $1m will not make you top 1%.

Thanks for this bro.

It just looks as if there's no hope in sight. How long will schools now be closed?

So if tomorrow there's threat of Bandits attack in all 36 states that's how all schools will be shut down and we will have to wait it out?

I think Government needs to do more than whatever tbey are doing now. Something needs to change; maybe it's in regards to how they treat any bandit/terrorists caught ni, I don't even know. So thing just needs to change

Few Fulani terrorists no supposed dey dictate how the state function and whether an institution will open or not.

[quote author=BlueRayDick post=139670053]When Elder talks about not really understanding the rationale behind young men still joining the army, it looks as if he's denigrating the memories of those young men fighting on the front lines to keep us safe.

However, on deeper reflection one can't but wonder what is really that thing motivating our bright young people to join the army in the corrupt state it is with selfish corrupt superiors heading our military.

The lady in the video below came online to reveal her brother recently died in active combat as a soldier and the army authorities are asking their family to pay N2m as cost of transporting his corpse to the family compound where they intend to bury him. To think their father was also a soldier before he died. And now they are being treated this way

I mean why will my father be a soldier and I will still join Nigerian army in its current state? From the environment of their home, it even shows their father didn't make much from his career as a soldier, so why did the son also join the job only to lose his life in such tragic way?

It now looks as if the male in their family just dey sacrifice their lives for naija wey no really care about them.

I always say, there's no reason any sane person should join the Nigerian army.

Especially those people joining as normal recruits.
Pure waste of life. But then again, which life? The ones joining as recruits are already failures in life, so they have no other option. The guy the lady is talking about probably joined as a normal recruit.

What does she mean by miscommunication?

She even made a follow-up video to the first one I posted and in that followup she alleged that they were told if they want to arrange for transportation themselves (as the deceased family), the army said all his benefits will be forfeited..More like the army will wash it hands off the guy's matter.

So she's saying the initial claim was false and the follow up video too was false?

If anybody is threatening her and her family she had better talk.... If not she will be branded a liar for life

Is it that people are getting more diagnozed than before

Maybe say in years back, people were having this disease but they do not have the means to diagnoze am correctly and they will just put it under died after a brief illness

Or something has changed about our way of life compared to before which exposes us to cancer risk than before

I think maybe a combination of the 2 factors

Man dies children want to collect his benefit

Whats there to forgive?

Has situations worse than that not been attributed to Nigerian public officials ni?

I have heard of a situation why officials of ministry of finance in this Lagos state extort family of a deceased to the tune of almost a million naira naira before his death benefits was paid. So my first instinct is not to doubt the lady's story one bit. My best guess is she and her family may be facing extortion by some corrupt senior officers in the army and she coming online is the only way to have the gray lines cleared in the public space......

If indeed she's chasing clout, shame on her!

Check my last post before this one. I know someone whose family was extorted by corrupt staff in the ministry before their father's entitlement were paid after his demise.

It's on that premise I don't doubt the initial story at all.

In years back, they are undiagnosed. Like one Chief in the local neighborhood where I lived, him belle swell (tell tale sign of cancer), they said someone did juju on him (which always used as cause of death when your belle swell). Then when he died, they said nobody should come out at night because they are looking for 10 heads to bury with him. Imagine a man important enough to bury with ten heads but not important enough to diagnose properly, what hope will the common villagers now have of proper diagnosis when Chief could not get one.

I have just looked at the video and I am surprised that you did not take it with a handful of salt

The lady did not name herself
She did not name her brother
She did not name her father
She did not show any picture of either of them in uniform
She said nothing about the barracks or location they were assigned to

She just came online with a vague story and tears

What is the difference between this woman and the hustlers who have a story about how they have to pay one big medical bill for their pikin?

At no point did she name names - just said the army said we should pay money. If you are going to call people out then you should at the minimum name the location, time, venue where the incident occurred.

We had a cad guy in my old office years back. This guy was very young, very popular. Then he died in an accident. He was ibo and his extended family turned the whole thing to cash out.

They were talking about death benefits and insurance money. That was when it turned out the guy was not an actual employee in any shape or form. I think he finished with a third which made him ineligible for employment and our hod was paying him salary directly. This happens often more than you know. One oga arranges and his person is in the office, with if card, email etc, but is being paid directly by the oga.

It became a real mess as the extended family no wan hear and were just focused on oyel money cashout. In the end to avoid any nonsense in the news the company dropped some money for them. And hod had to face disciplinary committee but he scaled through.

The guy did not die on site or in the office or anything - his car ran under a trailer late at night.

So the fact of the matter is we don't actually know anything as to if this guy in the story is actually a soldier in the Nigerian army.

We have had the same experience in university where some people were with us from 100l to 400l and never had admission of any kind.

But somewhere they had relatives telling everyone I have a son/brother /nephew reading - - - in unilorin

The first thing I would have expected the lady to do is name her brother, his rank and show evidence that he is a soldier.

If the guy existed those who knew him may even follow up on the case as a semper fi matter

This is what I am saying

If I want to go the court of public opinion I will not say I have a brother in the army

I will say my brother major general glorious gbola has been in the army since 2002. He served in Bleep xyz, baf. He suddenly passed on in Port Harcourt at dddd. I was at the cantonment to ask that they send his body home on sssss date and sergeant raum said I must drop money first. Corporal blue ray said i must drop knicker.

I don't think that is too hard. I guess it is the blogger one should blame for jumping on a story without an attempt at verifying.

My expectation is that internally they will inflate the cost of delivering the body, not try to pass it on to some impoverished relatives.

These are some of the reasons why many people argue that Africa is not yet fully prepared for democracy. Under a military regime, some of the things we see today would never happen. For instance, terrorists are arrested only to later be labeled "repentant terrorists" and reintegrated back into society. Such a policy would never happen under military rule.

Likewise, the repeated negotiations with bandits and even government having negatiation with bandits and payment of ransom would never occur in a military government rule.
Many believe that these criminal groups have powerful sponsors and financiers operating behind the scenes, but because leniency of democracy, its handicap them when it comes to acting ruthlessly, even if it wants to do so. you will soon begin to hear words such as, "This is a witch-hunt," an attack on bokoharam is attack on the north" "Due process must be followed," and "Only the court can determine if he is involved or not" with this democracy will struggle to act decisively against those who are suspected of financing terrorism.

Over the years, several individuals have been publicly accused or rumored to be linked to terrorist activities, yet none has never be investigated or prosecuted. These are the some of the leniency democratic governance, and with this leniency it creates an environment where some sponsors feel relaxed and protected. In contrast, a military regime would typically respond with swift and uncompromising action, whether rightly or wrongly, dem no care.

This is why some people contend that the security challenges facing many African countries expose the weaknesses of democratic systems when dealing with insurgency and terrorism.
I am not advocating for military rule, but the truth is that our democracy appears too weak to effectively deal with many of the serious challenges confronting the country.

PRESS RELEASE

KOGI GOVERNMENT MOURNS ILUKE VICTIMS, COMMENDS SECURITY FORCES FOR FOILING MASS ABDUCTION OF WAEC CANDIDATES

1. The Kogi State Government has received with deep sadness the report of a terrorist attack on Iluke Community in Bunu District of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area by criminal elements who disguised themselves in military uniforms in a desperate attempt to deceive residents and perpetrate their evil act.

2. The unfortunate attack led to the death of three members of the community. Government extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the people of Iluke Community, and the entire Bunu District over this painful loss.

3. Even as the State mourns the painful loss of three community members, Government commends the swift response, exceptional bravery, and gallantry of military personnel and local security forces whose intervention prevented the attackers from carrying out a mass abduction of students and inflicting further casualties on the community.

4. Reports available to Government indicate that the bandits disrupted an ongoing WAEC examination and had already begun marching students into the bush when security operatives engaged them in a fierce gun battle. Owing to the superior firepower, professionalism, and courage of the security agents, all the students were successfully rescued unharmed and returned to safety.

5. During the operation, security forces neutralised one of the bandits, while several others escaped with severe gunshot injuries. Security agencies are currently on the trail of the fleeing criminals and are intensifying efforts to ensure that all those connected with the attack are apprehended and brought to justice.

6. The Kogi State Government expresses profound appreciation to the military, local vigilantes, hunters, and other security personnel whose sacrifice, patriotism, and commitment to duty saved innocent lives and prevented what could have been a devastating mass abduction.

7. Government is closely monitoring the situation in the affected community and is working with relevant security agencies to strengthen security presence in the area. Additional security measures will be announced in due course as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property.

8. We urge residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that can assist ongoing operations against criminal elements.

9. Let it be clearly stated that Kogi State will not submit to terror. Criminal elements seeking to undermine the peace and security of our State will continue to meet a determined, coordinated, and uncompromising response from security agencies and the Government.

10. Once again, we sympathize with the bereaved families and pray for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased. We also stand in solidarity with the people of Iluke Community as security agencies intensify efforts to restore calm and bring all those responsible for this heinous attack to justice.

Signed:

Kingsley Femi Fanwo
Commissioner for Information and Communications
Kogi State

There was a lot of misdiagnosis/ underdiagnosis (Still happening now) in the past because of a lack of clinical technology, practices and education. A lot of people died from cancer in the past but were never diagnosed. Improved public awareness on Cancer and proactive testing has also helped and that is what we want. You want these illnesses, particularly terminal ones to be talked about. Infact, until recently, people thought Cancer na Big Man sickness, so you can imagine the number of poor people who have died from Cancer.

It's like diabetes, in the past, we did not know much about it and many of our relatives and friends died from it and we called it 'Oria mamiri" (excessive urination) or other names and attributed it to other things. Our diet in Nigeria is carbohydrate heavy and the consequences over time are dire. Today, we call it Oria Shuga. With more education, free testing, improved clinical technology, particularly in testing and diagnosis, we now know it may be the reason why Dee Apama lost his sight or lost a leg from amputation after a small foot injury.
