This guy is not going about it there that way...

He shouldn't have sent printed copy to access bank...that was why they needed verification of the documents..

Again, he shouldn't have gone to submit the order by himself...barristers at law are recognizable by the address of their Chambers hence they should have done that...

Court orders are promptly addressed, but seems the huge sum is scaring them....in all they should not have taken that long

Re: First Bank Refuse To Reverse Erroneous Bank Transfer Despite Court Order by Mordecai(m): 7:58am On Jun 11
The wording of the court order is the problem.

It was ordering the 1st respondent (the father-in-law) to reverse the money from the account of the second respondent (First Bank). It should be vice versa.

I hope you get it clearly. That is why the bank has no obligation to reverse the funds. Secondly, the father-in-law must have moved the funds out and declined the bank's request to reverse it.

If his father-in-law that's a phone call away has not transferred it back to you, know for a certain that he has taken all steps necessary to ensure that he moved out the funds from the account.

Get the court to correct the court order.

Matthew Akinwale Dada, an equipment maintenance technician based in Rivers State, has narrated to FIJ how First Bank of Nigeria and Access Bank have continued to withhold the N500,000 he mistakenly transferred into the First Bank account of his late father-in-law on December 22, 2025.

Speaking with FIJ on Monday, Dada said the money was meant to be sent to his wife, Jemialu Oluwatoyin Janet, for safekeeping ahead of his son’s school fee payment in January. However, he mistakenly transferred the funds to his late father-in-law’s account because both his wife and her father banked with First Bank.

He explained that the transfer was made from his Access Bank account, and every effort to recover the money since the incident occurred has failed, despite repeated complaints to both banks and the submission of a court order.

“I wanted to transfer N500,000 to my wife on December 22, 2025, so she could keep it for my son’s school fees against January, but unfortunately, I mistakenly transferred it to my late father-in-law’s account instead,” Dada told FIJ.

“Both my wife and her father bank with First Bank of Nigeria, but I made the transfer through my Access Bank account.

“Immediately I discovered the mistake, I called Access Bank customer care and explained everything to them. My wife also contacted First Bank customer care, and both banks confirmed that the transaction was successful.”

REPEATED COMPLAINTS YIELDED NO RESULT
Despite promptly reporting the erroneous transfer, Dada said both banks repeatedly assured him that the issue would be resolved within 24 hours, but months later, the money remains unreversed.

“I called both First Bank and Access Bank several times and sent emails almost every week,” he said.

“They both responded and kept promising that the issue would be resolved within 24 hours, but nothing positive has happened till this moment.”

COURT ORDER SUBMITTED, YET NO REVERSAL
Dada also told FIJ that after several complaints, the banks requested a court order before processing the reversal of the funds.

He said he complied with the directive by submitting the required documents to both banks in February, but the money has still not been refunded.

“At some point, both banks asked for a court order before they could activate the reversal process,” he said.

“I submitted a copy of the court order to Access Bank through email and also submitted the original hard copy to First Bank at its Rumudara branch in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on February 2.

“Still, there has been no positive outcome from both banks.”

ACCESS BANK REQUESTED A FEE FOR VERIFICATION
Dada also disclosed that Access Bank later requested his consent to deduct N8,068 from his account for the verification of the court order submitted to First Bank.

He said the bank claimed the verification request came from First Bank.

“On March 3, Access Bank replied to one of my emails concerning the erroneous transfer,” Dada said.

“They asked me to give consent for the deduction of N8,068 from my Access Bank account to verify the authenticity of the court order I submitted to First Bank, claiming that First Bank requested it.

“I gave them written permission to conduct the verification, although I do not know whether the money has been deducted from my account. They, however, acknowledged receipt of my consent.”

When FIJ contacted First Bank via email on Wednesday to ask about the delay in reversing Dada’s funds, the bank responded and promised to look into the matter if Dada resent the court order in PDF format.

“We acknowledge your email regarding the unresolved erroneous transaction. Kindly be informed that we are unable to access the documents provided,” the bank responded.

“We therefore advise that Dada resend the court order in PDF format for further assistance.”

FIJ also contacted Access Bank via WhatsApp on the same day, but the bank did not respond. Subsequently, FIJ sent an email to the bank for comments on the matter.

“This is to acknowledge your mail. Our representative will share an update with you on the matter within 24-72 hours,” Access Bank replied. No other response had been received at press time.

But this "court order" is somehow na. Plus, you should have gotten it from a higher court like high court with jurisdiction, not magistrate Court.

They’re basically saying, Yeah, the judge said so but we’d rather play by our own rules. Absolute regulatory malfeasance. If this isn’t a case for the EFCC to swoop in and audit their entire operation, I don’t know what is.

I switched to Opay just last year and my life has been easier. No unnecessary visits to banks to complain about rubbish.

I have let all my traditional bank accounts go dormant except for 1 and i only transfer from there to my Opay.

Even the Opay sef, I dont use cards. Transfer only.

When you see these banks declaring massive profits without commensurate issuance of loans to SMEs, you know the money is dirty.

Yeah,
our lawyers takes advantage of this situation to exploit their clients.
But secondly, he didnt sue the bank, it was merely a court order for the bank to release the money.
I believe it was suppose to carry a stipulated date.
If that date is not met, then he can proceed to sue the bank for intentionally withholding his money and claim damages.

The simple truth many will not acknowledge. The banks bear no fault in this. Most people don't know how sensitive and potentially incriminating it is for a branch to reverse a successful transaction without an express approval from their headquarters.

Them think say bank na kiosk.

Maybe if you took time to read and comprehend the story, all this epistle would not be necessary. The bank takes no blame here. Go back and read to understand.

Both banks did their part in the whole transaction. It was the customer that made a mess. He must pray and wait. You think banking is akara business?

they need to verify the authenticity of the court order it is normal thing, I went exactly through same process when I erroneously transfer 30k to a wrong account and I got my money back with 2weeks, you need to submit the court order to th3 beneficiary bank and pay for the verification of the court order and wait a week or 2 ur money will be credited back to the account it came from

Activate contempt of court proceedings and get the FBN manager of the branch you submitted the court order arrested. You will get your money that same day because he will not want to sleep in prison.
