Tinubu has always advocated for state police. I’m glad we’re getting nearer to see it. In USA and UK like most advanced countries, policing is localised. Employ only local people who have genuine interest in protecting the community. Why bring someone from Borno to police Abeokuta, no matter how sincere he might be, he cannot give his 100% |

Truths9ja:Just a bit worried by the same issues plaguing the Federal Police. Namely who appoints who. How will a state governor 'appoint' the Commissioner and then the Commissioner rejects a so called illegal order. We have to get round this issue as a nation. We are a democracy. We have left colonial rule. Executive power should be reformed as well. It is the snake that eats the eggs of institution building. Please can they find a way round Governors solely appointing Commissioners of Police until State Houses of Assembly are truly independent. |

Kukutente23:Finally, someone is seeing through the whole smokescreen. The state police forces are supposed to be autonomous and only skeletally regulated by the overall policing body. In addition, they also left a loophole by giving the provision that the Police Council can veto the orders of the state governor to the State Police Force if it's inconsistent (without defining what in consistency means) with policing standards. This means that the president can interfere with the affairs of each and every state police. They're are not yet serious with the creation of a state police because this is still NPF promax. Make the state police autonomous, defining the arms and carriage limits, their scope etc, these people should behave like an organized institution for once and let's rest abeg! |

nairalanda1:Mr. Tinubu said he has given states more resources than ever in the history of the country. What else should they be doing with the at the expense of their own security excess. Are the funds for flyovers or for building shoddy, ramshackle airports. Heck, some states are even establishing airlines, sponsoring pilgrimages and mass weddings to the tune of billions. You can afford all that but cannot afford to guard your boundaries and protect your peoples. What a joke. |

Kukutente23:Another thing I did not see. I think Pharaoh just doesn't want to let the slaves go. Now he is saying go but hang around the corner where I can see you in case I change my mind. The State police should be as independent as the Nigerian police is from the colonial British police. If not interference will be a recurring nightmare and nothing will work properly. And when it stumbles the naysayers will be all out saying , 'we told.you so...' The Federal police will frustrate the living daylights out of folks they will call subservient. They should take a page out of the US policing system. It is about the best practice globally. |

Wande22:The two-tier policing you have at the national level will trickle down to the state level, given that Sharia remains enshrined in the constitution. What this means is that there will remain one law for Islamists and terrorists and another law for non-Islamists even at the state level. ![]() You better hold on to your local militia groups until you are sure you have completely removed Sharia from the Constitution of the nation. Otherwise,... ![]() |

DarkkManB:. It’s Tinubu’s bill nah. Tinubu is the Senate, the Senate is Tinubu. But if the Senate decides to be unfortunate, Tinubu will pass and sign it without anyone’s input. He did it with LG Autonomy |

| Re: House of Reps passes State Police Bill by Biggaboi(m): 6:47pm On Jun 11 |
Just like America Federal Police will become like FBI that only interferes when the state police comes to it for help My fear is incumbent governors will turn the state police to their personal army against political opponents especially during election time. Almost every good thing in the country get abused for selfish reasons in the end |
| Re: House of Reps passes State Police Bill by jahsharon: 6:50pm On Jun 11 |
Kobojunkie:. If you want to cry, cry well well. Let me remind you also that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Kudirat Small-Tiger is also our girl, Tinubu personally nominated her to represent Lagos at the Supreme Court some years back and has teleguided her till she got the number-one position at the Supreme Court. so Tinubu can do whatever he likes and that’s what he has been doing |

jahsharon:At least you own it with your full chest that the country has been hijacked and no longer operating according to even the Constitution. And I hope Nigerians now see why that document needs to be shredded and burned in its entirety and a new one implemented to stop such fraud from befalling them ever again in the future. ![]() |

Some particular tribes that always afraid of state police because they fear it will quicken the breakup of Nigeria will not like this news |
| Re: House of Reps passes State Police Bill by DeLaRue: 7:16pm On Jun 11 |
jahsharon:That is not possible. A President cannot sign into law, a bill that has not been passed by both the House of Rep and the Senate. When it is a Constitutional amendment, as in this case, then in addition to the bill passing in the 2 houses, it must be passed by not less than two-thirds of State Houses of Assembly before it goes to the President for signing. There are no short cuts. The above processes are sacrosanct. And the President has not signed any local government bill that bypassed any of those processes. |

Beautiful news! The best news I have read today! |
| Re: House of Reps passes State Police Bill by valentineuwakwe(m): 7:26pm On Jun 11 |
The bill didn't even state a clear cut difference as per who is more superior, where each will be confined to and operate.... Soon state police boys will want to drag road or bribes with the federal police...they didn't even state how uniforms, personnel or firearms Wil go about. They just hurriedly passed this billed with careful planning due to bandits n herdsmen surge. Let them not create a monster that will be difficult to contain in future. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria |

Sheuns:Pls no collect bribe oo and be strict in doing the right things without compromise when engaged. That will be the beginning of the greater Lagos. |
| Re: House of Reps passes State Police Bill by Kobojunkie: 7:53pm On Jun 11 |
phemray:He has the right attitude at least. Locals should make sure their state police are drawn from local individuals and not from a pool of foreign terrorists, including Islamists in Nigeria. In Southern Nigeria, for instance, many of the security jobs already go to Islamists from the North and abroad. To keep that from happening, local youths should endeavor to get themselves into those roles as soon as necessary. ![]() |
