Poor Leadership Behind Super Eagles’ Failure To Qualify For World Cup— Peter Obi

As the World Cup Begins Without Nigeria

As the World Cup begins today across three nations, I identify with our teeming football followers and urge them not to be despondent that Nigeria is not participating, despite the abundant talent in our land.

Our failure to participate on the global stage is not due to a deficit of talent; it is a direct consequence of a deficit in leadership, planning, and institutional support.

The task of building a better Nigeria rests primarily on the shoulders of the younger generation. Do not watch the World Cup with despair; rather, see it as a reminder of where Nigeria ought to be. We must move our country from being a nation of mere consumers of global entertainment to a nation of proud producers and competitors.

What a crass way of thinking, coming from a well documented fail. We qualified for tournaments in 1994-1998 in spite of all, not because we had great national leaders.
Not sure any previous government has kept promises to our footballers as much as the current one.

Pero abeg. Sit this one out. I support you but no be for everything you go chook mouth. Italy didn't qualify as well. A good number of well run countries didn't qualify too. The previous times Nigeria qualified for the world cup, the country had barely functional/effective leadership.

Dr Congo qualified for the world cup and that country has been a hell hole and a war zone for decades. They practically have no leadership. The blame for not qualifying for the world cup lies squarely with the super eagles and the NFF. Their incompetence is the reason why Nigeria hasn't gone to the world cup twice in 8 years.
