I can see that nairaland is filled up with kids In my 20s I ate three times a day, in my 30s I stopped eating that much I only eat once a day most times. Guess what within 2 years I developed belly fat, I dumped using every possible means of transportation and always trekked, instead of burning fat I was adding more and more belly fat and my skin was now starting to turn dark due to excessive exposure to the sun, I hit the gym and still nothing changed, then it dawned on me it's purely genetics, I stopped fighting it and just let go, it has been like that ever since. When belly fat comes for you, you can't fight it off no matter how hard you try, unless you brought it upon yourself through excessive feeding, trust me some of us developed this without eating excessively. To those who instantly see belly fat and assume you ate your way there, you are so naive. I'm saving up now to go get a comprehensive check on my thyroid functions, that is the last resort I am deploying shortly. I hated belly fat, but I never knew it would hit my doorstep too soon. Funny enough it came and stopped, it did not get bigger beyond that. All my older brothers have it, my dad has it, everyone in my family except the ones currently in their early 30s. Fighting belly fat if it's genetics is like fighting baldness, you need a medical approach |

Nature vs nurture. Nature usually wins. I know people whom I eat more than and they are fat with pot belly. I wish I could add some weight but I can't. I believe that people can work on themselves through diet and exercise, but what I also know is that not everyone who is fat or has a pot belly is undisciplined. If you're fat and have lots of will power, you can get a decent body. You may not be thin, but at least you will look presentable. |

Silentgroper:I'm sorry if I did scared you or anyone else. That was not my intention. What i am trying to say is that's there's a relationship especially if the person is a chronic alcoholic, exposed to certain diseases like hepatitis A and B( could be sexually, blood transfusion, or Hep A which can be gotten from contaminated foods and drinks). |

It's rather unfortunate that we perceive individuals with pot belly as somebody that is healthy whereas it is a sign of ill health,I was informed by a doctor friend more than 20years ago and have been doing everything to prevent it |

What about mummy belly from pregnancy? Does it count? 😄 I used to have a flat tummy but after one, my tummy became pointed. It's mostly loose muscle, I think, and not necessarily belly fat. When I lay down on my back, the tummy is usually deflated, unless I just ate or had a big meal. Also weighed not so much but after my first baby, I was left with 13 extra kgs. Na there I dey now. Trying to see how I can beat it down and lose some 20kgs. It's well. |

According to health discussions, constant consumption of sugar, bread, soft drinks, noodles, pastries, rice, and other refined carbs can keep insulin levels high for too long. And when insulin stays high, something interesting happens. The body increases an enzyme called aromatase, which can convert testosterone (male hormone) into estrogen. Meaning: More belly fat = More aromatase More aromatase = More estrogen More estrogen = More belly fat Na loop be that |
