The 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr Peter Obi, has pledged to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu if he becomes the president of Nigeria.

Obi said the Nigerian government has no reason to detain Kanu due to his insults on Radio Biafra.

Addressing Nigerians in Washington, the former Anambra State governor vowed to dialogue with agitators if elected president of Nigeria.

He said: “There’s no reason for keeping Nnamdi Kanu. I will free Nnamdi Kanu as President, he has done nothing wrong, the government has no reason to arrest him because he was speaking and calling people names on radio, it doesn’t make sense.

“Anybody can tell you anything, I’m a politician and people call me all sorts of names and I don’t think calling me names is an offence, it’s not an offence.

If I am in government today, I will discuss with all agitators because I believe that they have a reason for whatever they want to do and it’s only by engaging them that we would learn, but I’m not in a position to do anything today.”

The IPOB leader is currently serving life imprisonment sentence at the Sokoto Correctional Centre.

I don’t know how anybody with brains would think calling South East “five plots” will hurt Any South Easterner,South East is bigger than many Countries today and some of those Countriea are far richer than Nigeria(Big for nothing),I’d rather be from England than Congo Drc

Inspect the bolded in you post. Is Kanu "you don't know law" repentant?

Have Igbos ever pleaded for forgiveness for him rather than be blackmailing Nigerians he is innocent and a Saint?

"Repentant" bandits and terrorists, even if insincere, go and prostrate and renounce their wrongdoing. That is how they access amnesty scheme that is a non-kinetic strategy for fighting terrorism.

When has Kanu and his people ever showed readiness to accept they are wrong and ready to renounce their criminal ways?

Was Kanu convicted for calling for seccesion ?

And if I may remind you, it was under Ironsi that succession became automatically a capital offense .

Adaka Boro was convicted by Ironsi's govt for simply declaring Niger Delta Republic.
