Can such a matter be reported to the police that bold statement is a joke and you know that already.
Just use your rent and park out. That is the only resolution. Its your fault that you didn't confirm the strength of internet in the area before paying the rent. Abi you wan make landlord and agent install network for you ni?

Good evening everyone.

I need advice regarding a house I recently rented through an agent.

I have not stayed in the apartment for up to 3 days, but I have discovered a major problem that is seriously affecting my work and income. There is virtually no mobile network inside the house. MTN, Airtel, and Glo all fail indoors. I have tested multiple phones and networks in every room, including the parlour, kitchen, and bedrooms.
The only way I can get a little signal is by opening the door or going outside. As I write this, my younger brother and friend are outside late at night trying to get network access. I also use several phones and a laptop for my work, so this issue has already affected my productivity and earnings.
The building is relatively new, and this problem was never mentioned by the agent before I paid. Had I known that there was no usable network inside the apartment, I would have seriously reconsidered renting it because my work depends heavily on internet access.

My questions are:

If I report this to the landlord and agent and they refuse to refund my money or provide a solution, what are my options?

Can such a matter be reported to the police, or is it strictly a civil matter?

Does this situation give me any legal grounds to seek a refund or compensation, considering I discovered the issue almost immediately after moving in?

I would appreciate advice from anyone who has experienced something similar or has knowledge of tenancy and property matters in Nigeria.

Thank you
I was experiencing it too when I parked to my apartment down floor.

For me to browse I have to hang my phone at the window until I bought wifi , if I don’t hang my phone or phone at the window I can’t do anything.

Just go buy WiFi and next time you want to rent house check for network connection first before checking anything else and don’t live at down floor .

What is going to happen is this , ask someone around to rent the apartment and the person paid you which you know this better and if there is no one ready to rent the apartment, there is no way you can get a refund unless you want to complicate things, it's none of the owner of the apartment business , you saw the whole stuff before making payment.

In respect to productivity, bro, you have to keep doing your shii outside pending the time you get a new apartment. That's all there is to it..

You can't accuse or sue the agent for this as network available is not usually part of things pple usually have agreements while renting house.

Best you can do is start searching for another apartment, inform the agent about this issue,so let him get another person to stay in the house...then the new tenant will balance you... you can still assign the agent to get another apartment for you

Okay .it happened to me too. Exactly same story and I resolved it . Try and get across to the landlord .although the agents may be trying to prevent you from reaching the landlord . But tell the agents you're willing to forgo the agency fee.. but the other monies are yours .I mean the rent and agreement . In my case I paid 1.4 and received 1.3.. tell them clearly that your life depends on your online business and that you can neither survive or feed staying there

Re: My New Apartment Has No Network Signal Indoors And It Is Affecting My Work by VanuatuWycombe:
Many things may be wrong with the house or the area. Parts of which may be:

- Mast problems in that area.

- The floor plan of the house you rented because houses built with too much corner corner walls, all in the name of designing a unique plan, usually has network problems.

- Wall thickness of the house too may affect your network. A house built with solid blocks or thicker concretes and of low height, causes poor signal reception.

- Poor ventilation of doors and windows, thicker window curtains and window blinds.

- Someone using network booster in his house

- Someone using network jammers.

- Spectrum of the area generally because the area may not have deserved a mast but someone influenced it and network mast put there.

- The brand of phone you are using. Yes. You read it well. How solid and updated your phone’s software is can affect your signal reception.

Solutions:
- You may need to pack out and get another house. You won’t realize this until you seriously need network to do some serious tasks.

- Try other private broadband internet connection, if you can afford it.

Call the network providers, they may be able to help. Experienced something similar, while the network outside was slow, it was dead in the house. I called Airtel and within a day the network improved and it's been great since then. Goodluck
