I have never come across a people so obsessed with religion, and "religious people".

For a set of people that claim to not care about religion, how come they're so obsessed, huh?

Me for instance, I don't concern myself with what I don't care about.
I consider it a total waste of time and energy.

There are several ways to look at it.

1). Maybe because religious people are always in your face. Every corner you turn in modern day Nigeria, you see or meet religion. Even in everyday language, people always reference God. Nigerians are among the most religious people on earth. So, it makes sense for a Nigerian atheist to act in a manner that suggests that they are obsessed about religion. The religionist simply will not leave you alone.

2). Atheism is itself a belief system. And every belief system requires adherents to convert people to their ways. What you call obsession on the path of the atheist can be likened to religious zeal to win more converts.

They wanted to hide behind science but the deeper the go into science the more they are seeing the evidence that God exists. The problem they have now is shame because they don't want to swallow their former pride and ask the most important question:

Which religion is the truth or which one represents God amongst the tens of thousands different religions around the world?

Many of their leaders are confused after having indepth knowledge of science as they keep on seeing the evidence of God's existence! Romans 1:18-20
