If tehran had a nuke or some measure of quantifiable deterrence, this "economic misadventure" would have been swallowed with an equal measure of confidence from the public.

But taking this risk with pliable neighbors who'll readily sell you out to your enemies at any opportune moment, is in my opinion, a f**lish decision with consequences that will subsequently prove to be dire.

Iran should rather focus on selling military hardware, security assurances and oil resources to their gulf neighbours, rather than creating room for self-inflicted sabotage, which is certainly bound to happen should the west cuddle the Arabs well enough to turn them.

now, it would have been better to get the funds from china to rebuild key facilities like damaged refining, steel, electricity, and petrochemical facilities at less than 2% or at no interest but with the same profit incentives
and then direct the $300B to other underinvested areas
