They were attacked because they had uranium that was enriched above the threshold needed for peaceful purposes and the fissile material they have already can make eleven nuclear war heads. The level of enrichment it is at can make dirty bombs of the type dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The fissile material is still with them and it is sensible to conclude they have dirty bombs already since they have refused to give up the fissile material.
