Police fired rubber bullets and Use Stun Grenades against migrants

Fresh concerns over the treatment of African migrants in South Africa, have emerged after disturbing videos circulating online appeared to show law enforcement officers confronting groups of displaced migrants in Durban.

Witnesses claim many of those affected were migrants from neighboring African countries, including Malawi, who had been sheltering in open spaces while seeking safety and assistance. The footage has sparked outrage on social media, with activists accusing authorities of using excessive force against vulnerable communities.

However, officials have yet to release a detailed account of the incident, leaving many unanswered questions about what exactly transpired and whether established crowd-control procedures were followed.

The development comes amid renewed debates over xenophobia, migration, and public safety in South Africa. While some residents argue that authorities are struggling to cope with increasing social and economic pressures, others insist that migrants should not become targets of hostility or heavy-handed enforcement.

Human rights advocates are calling for an independent investigation into the incident, stressing that every individual—regardless of nationality or immigration status—is entitled to dignity, protection, and fair treatment under the law.

As tensions continue to simmer, observers warn that the way South Africa handles its migration challenges could shape not only domestic stability but also its standing across the African continent.

For many Africans watching from afar, the troubling scenes from Durban raise a difficult question: Can a nation built on the ideals of equality and human rights find a balanced solution to its growing migration dilemma without sacrificing compassion?
Let's Discuss About This.

The hall has been serving as a temporary refuge for thousands of Malawian nationals for nearly two weeks amid concerns over threats from anti-immigration groups.

I'm not understanding this kind of forced migration. Sit your azz in your country and contribute your bit towards making it an enviable place. Africans are cowards and escapists, always seeking the easy way out then you wonder why the rest of the world don't take us seriously. These places we keep running to (Europe et al), was built with sweat and blood.

I hope the South African citizens can match up, by filling those positions left by other immigrants... Otherwise, deflation will set in.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police say Wednesday’s chaotic scenes at Sherwood Hall won't be repeated, citing a heightened security presence.

Malawian nationals, who have spent nearly two weeks at the community shelter demanding repatriation, grew frustrated over miscommunication, pelting law enforcement personnel and vehicles with stones.

Several vehicles were damaged during the protest.

Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said measures are now in place to maintain order.

"The area has since been cordoned off to ensure that no new people arrive at the hall, this after it was realised that the numbers were growing each day because of new people who were coming from all over the country and that overwhelmed the operation by the Home Affairs officials and specialised courts," Netshiunda said.

"The area is calm; however, police presence is maintained to prevent any chaos."

Malawi might be poor but they have tourism and no war or conflict. I think they can prosper at home.

Let’s all return to our countries and force the hands of our so called leaders to start doing the right things and listening to the people.

The people of South Africa have successfully forced the hands of their leaders to do their biddings (send illegal immigrants away).

We can’t keep running or looking for greener pastures everywhere and leave these people called leaders to continue destroying our countries.

We need to stand and face these people and start forcing them to do the right things.

Its not coded anything. They are fully supporting withiut hiding it. On facebook, there are several videos of the police escorting them while the mobs trash others and beat them with sticks.

Every time l see this sort of situation, especially when Nigerians are involved, l get annoyed at the Host Country (like South Africa) but it quickly don on me that the bigger problem is the Leaders in a well blessed Country that are looting resources meant for the population and they are the ones that deserve our Anger.

Imagine the Deputy Head of the NNPCL telling Senate Committee that they used Two Hundred and Ninety Three Billion Naira (#293Billion) to REGISTER NNPCL as a limited Liability Company!

But Company registration is less that Twenty Thousand Naira, infact, it was done for free, less than two years ago!

It is this sort of monumental level of Corruption, that spreads poverty and drive Nigerians to relocate to ANYWHERE, including into Countries that hate Blacks (Arab North African Countries) or Xenophobic Republic like South Africa.

If we don't fix our Country and get rid of Looters, Bad Government, things will keep getting worse and we will keep getting treated like Garbage, by those who should be our Shoe-Shiners.
Let us make the Sacrifice, to make Nigeria work for all of us, by shunning Tribalism, Religious, stop supporting Criminal Politicians/Political party, stop Voting along Ethnic and Religious lines, ..... TOGETHER, face our Rulers SQUARELY, they are the real and bigger enemies.

CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME.

When we are done with ourselves and have become a big Power (just like China), let me see how all these Xenophobic Countries will not show us the respect we deserve.
Have we seen any Country try to abuse a Chinese Citizen, in recent times?

Get your fact right

South Africa wants a country where all economic immigrants will be documented to stop crime and a situation where foreigners won't stretch their meagre resources

I believe that's not too hard to ask for, before u come n argue I stayed there for good 3 years so I know their pain
