How do we get this wonderful but medicinal cooking ingredient around us now? And how much is it sold in the market today? How does one go into the farming if he wishes to produce in an industrial scale?

From where I come from, we don't eat this o. We have it in abundance but we the children at the time used it for game called "Arin".

The name is "agbarin" from my own part of Yoruba.

This is nostalgic.

I ate shege comot for this Ukpo. You have to roast it before cracking the shell. Otherwise, it wouldn't separate from the fruit.
It was the cheapest food we could afford during our extremely poor state.

I am still grateful to God for this blessing.

This soup thickner is very delicious.
There is a guarantee that you must add water to your soup while warming it in the morning. The older the soup last, the sweeter it gets with this seed. After cocoa yam this is the commonest soup thickner I knew while growing up in those days.
My grandmother would instruct us to boil and pound it before her return from the market. It doesn't even ask for much ingredients to make your soup sweet. Mmmh, those good old days.

It will even make the soup more thicker the next day, that means you go add more water while warming the soup

Our people use it more often in preparing our traditional Annang native soup with (oha) mkpafere

We are loosing touch of some of these good food ingredients because we are turning to Noodles, Maggi this and that, sachet spieces etc etc.
My mum used to cook with this decades ago (Ibaba) in ibibio.
Those days you could eat very delicious meals made from home grown crops and only natural ingredients without any artificial seasonings.
