I am happy you are not poor; affordabilitysometimes is not same as being "poor" while you can afford it does not make it same for all parents.
Also, some school have made it compulsory and outrageous that parents complain as they are graduallygoing beyond the average reach.
You might also agree with me that some level of classism is being introduced leading to unhealthy competition amongst parent and students, this is aside the "teachers appreciation" on the side.
Like we say " a balanced diet is a cookie in every hand"
MrSly:
It is of social value to our children. The children value it and look forward to it. Like I said I have paid for my daughter and she will attend. QED. Politicians should avoid intruding into educational institutions which they have no single knowledge about its Intricacies. They stop graduation in their states but attend for that of their children abroad and some people are here spewing trash in support of these criminals. How much is graduation fees in schools that you can't make it once a year. Abeg I am not that poor.

How is graduation party nonsense? Do you know the joy those pupils/students when they know they're graduating? Do you know what it means to them? Oyibo wey dey do dia own why you no call am nonsense? The state government is only banning it because of the insecurity in the state. Na people like you dey call school "scam"
ok, tell us the importance of organizing a graduation party. It's a pure nonsense. What exactly is a secondary or primary school graduand celebrating?
Re: Ogun Government Stops Graduation Ceremonies In Public And Private Schools by egunna(m): 7:44pm On Jun 18
MrSly:
When govt does not recognise the work to do they end up doing what is not necessary. If you lots rule with sincerity parents won't have problem with the few thousands of naira we pay for our children's once a year celebration with their friends, classmates and schools mates in school, people they have known over time. You guys should fight insecurity, shun your corruption, embezzlement of public fund and great jobs. These will benefit the parents a million fold than this pettiness. I have paid for my daughter own and she will attend the graduation though she is not a graduand.

You people should focus on governance and stop making caricature of your selves.
that you can afford it does not mean every parent out there can.

So because you're not poor parents who are struggling should be forced to pay for a useless graduation party every year.

When you went to school such nonsensical parties were not in vogue and I'm sure you did not suffer any behavioural deficiencies as a result of not attending them.
can u imagine celebrating graduation from secondary school only to later find out that you didn't make your waec result?dat o e talking nonsense is one of the reasons the society is getting worse with each passing day.

Majority of the parents are owing school fees but they will find it convenient to pay for end of season and graduation party, it's part of what private school most especially the struggling ones use to survive that long holiday.

Bros, you spoke my mind. I wish Lagos state government can also ban that nonsense.

2 years ago, my child's school sent me a letter that he'll be graduating from Kindergarten to Nursery. I was shocked. I had to put a call through to the Director to be sure I read the letter correctly. If you see the way I shouted at them ehn, you go think sey we dey quarrel before. What arrant nonsense!

Today, that same child will be graduating again from Nursery to Primary. They have written a long list of the stuff to buy & pay for; Graduation fee, suit (they even stipulated beige colour), bow tie, shoe, graduation gown (rental) and other nonsense. For a 5 year old child going to Primary 1.

I just dey laugh them. If only they know the bad plan that is running through my mind. My son no kukuma no wetin dey go on, he was just like; "Daddy shebi I will ride bicycle on my graduation day?". Abeg, wetin 5 year old know about graduation?

Majority of these school owners won't make Heaven!

#Picks_tooth
Terrible! I sent this news item to someone. I believe Lagos State government will follow up soon.

Govt should stipulate a maximum fee for any form of graduation party in naija in both public & private schools and enforce it.
Re: Ogun Government Stops Graduation Ceremonies In Public And Private Schools by Vernor(m): 7:31am On Jun 19
That is your thinking, but you're wrong we parents are really tired of schools licking us dry calling different fees and children will not understand parents because of peer pressure.

They have already relaxed it.

Pry 6, JSS 3 and SSS 3 students are now exempted. No party, no Aso ebi , no unnecessary funfair.

But trust me, the elite schools won't comply or find their way around it.

Ask yourself the penitent question. Why can't Nigerians afford few thousands of naira even though they work every minute of their lives? The reason is poor leadership. Then the poor leaders avoided taking responsibility and resign honourable but then channelled the blame to people who established business to make money. Does govt also set prices for things they use to run their schools so they could ensure their affordability. Does the govt give them any form of help, subsidy or grant or even loan? You, that quoted me have you ever spoken with the owner of your children's school to understand some things they face. Njgeria is very shameless. I refuse to be deceived by this useless govt. School owners are not the reason the economy is this way. The governor nof that state shiuld resign and not playing to the galleries.

It is good to know about this deeply before making informed contributions on those subject matters. We should not allow govt to manipulate us.

From the moment I was enrolled into a private school I started attending graduation and my parents laid for it. I attended a Catholic mission secondary school and we celebrated feast day annually. So all these did not start today. But my point is that payment for graduation is not why Nigerians are poor. Poor leadership, embezzlement, corruption are the reason for low per capita income. So the governor who is directly guilty should not manipulate you into thinking that paying for graduation for your own child to experience happiness with other siblings is the cause of the economic word in Nigeria.

I appreciateyour point of view on this subject. However, government is still the ultimate regulator even though they provide little or no support to schools around.
My point of view is that if moderation cant be applied on these fees, it should be cancelled.
While some parent can pay the base fees with so many add ons ( social- field trip, graduation, party's), some still default on the base fee.

I understand that govt is the ultimate regulator, humanly speaking. That is why I am saying that they left the substance and they are pursuing shadows. Regulating how much schools collect is very dumb to top govt priorities in this state of total systemic decay in the country. How much is graduation fee? I paid 5k for my daughter. Is that what is making people go hungry such that govt should leave all the national issues affecting lives and properties of people to regulate graduation in schools?
Try to understand me

of course you are, else you wudnt be asking if I went to primary or secondary school. So far, I have not attended any graduation or convocation for myself and I am doing just fine. You kno y? Coz it doesn't matter. Am not saying graduation is wrong, but it is been abused in Nigeria. The private schools will milk you dry while the public secondary schools hardly have control over what the students do. If it continues on this trajectory, don't be surprised to hear of students committing suicide if a graduation party is not held for them. If you want a party, pls organize a private one. Then we will see you as a big man.
