Yes he was a good businessman but politically, I can't say same.
He and Okoroocha where good businessmen but since they tasted the corruption money of Nigerian politics, they changed into something else or will I say it changed them to something else

What was his achievements as the bank chairman? Apart from motivating eyimba fc to win the caf champions league i can hardly remember anything else this man achieved as governor of abia state his legacy and that of all those he installed in office was a complete disaster in terms of infrastructural development in abia for decades.

Yes and he was rumoured to be fronting for Nigeria's military dictators at that time. Many had high expectations when he became governor only to find out he had no magic wand. Just another individual who got some inexplicable opportunities. His performance as governor and subsequent positions totally failed to match his resume.

They did not change, the same system made them - they are all products of corruption.

The story did not tell us that he is from "old money"
At the age of 19, he borrowed $35 ( 5,000 naira by his own conversion) from his mother to start his business. The equivalent of about $36,000.00 today or ₦49,038,480 Naira.

By his early 20s, Kalu had expanded into large-scale logistics and hit the big time by securing lucrative contracts to import and supply arms, ammunition, and materials to Nigeria’s military and defense forces under the military regimes of the 1980s.

So, before you beret yourself, do a little research.

He did well for himself at a young age until he entered politics and became a disaster

Today he is only remembered as a corrupt former governor and a bootlicker to Tinubu and APC

The SE and SS people spits on him!

Zero information about how he got his start.

We know how Dangote and Otedola started; family wealth and inheritance.

Where did Kalu and Obi (yes, Obi) get their start? Zero information.

Babangida gave Kalu his start through his mother's relationship with the dictator.

Don't let anyone pressure you that these guys were billionaires in their twenties. Everything was given to them on a platter.

If not for his unbridled greed like Bola Tinubu his friend, he would have been one of the credible politicians Nigeria have today and Igbos would have been massively supporting him like Obi, but due to his corrupt practices as Abia state Governor and insistence on installing a successor like his friend Bola Tinubu did in Lagos, he lost the goodwill of the Igbos and reason you dont hear Igbos support any of his political endeavors.

Alex Otti is the next person I foresee to replace Obi if he continues on the good path he followed and not derail like other corrupt Nigerian politicians out of excessive greed and uncontrolled crave for more wealth angry
.

He is a two term senator and likely to be voted again by the good people of Abia north.
How can he win election if his people are not in support?

The Emmanuel odoemelam I know can not write this rubbish trying to white wash a well known corrupt man
odoemelamemmanu:
At 27, He Was Already a Bank Chairman: The Extraordinary Rise of Orji Uzor Kalu.

‎Emmanuel Odoemelam, China.

‎Long before he became a rep member, governor, senator, or one of the most influential political figures in contemporary Nigeria, Orji Uzor Kalu had already achieved what many spend a lifetime pursuing.

‎A recently circulated ranking of Nigeria's youngest bank chairmen places Kalu at the very top of the list. In 1987, at just 27 years old, he became Chairman of Cooperative and Commerce Bank (CCB), a feat that remains remarkable even by today's standards.

‎For many Nigerians, the achievement is more than a historical footnote. It is a reminder of a young entrepreneur whose journey from commerce to national leadership was built on vision, courage, and an uncommon appetite for enterprise.

‎By his mid-twenties, Kalu had already established himself in the world of business. He was involved in international commodity trading and had interests spanning multiple sectors, including furniture, shipping, oil, manufacturing, and other commercial ventures. At an age when many young people were still searching for direction, he was building companies, creating jobs, and expanding his business footprint beyond Nigeria's borders.

‎Those who have followed his career often point to his early years as evidence that success is not defined by age but by determination, discipline, and the ability to recognize opportunities where others see obstacles.

‎Today, Kalu's public profile extends far beyond business. He served as Governor of Abia State, later emerged as Chief Whip of the 9th Senate at first arrival at the Red Chambers, and currently represents Abia North Senatorial District in the National Assembly. He also chairs the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC), where he plays a key role in advancing development initiatives across the region as a top ranking senator.

‎Yet, despite decades in public service, many still associate him with the entrepreneurial spirit that first brought him national recognition. His story resonates because it reflects the possibilities available to young Africans willing to dream beyond limitations and work relentlessly toward their goals.

‎For Nigeria's Generation Z, Kalu's journey offers powerful lessons. It demonstrates that leadership can begin early, that wealth creation can be built through enterprise and innovation, and that business success can evolve into a platform for national service.

‎More than four decades after he began his business journey, Kalu remains a prominent figure in Nigeria's economic and political landscape. At 66, he continues to command attention whenever conversations turn to leadership, development, and the future of the country. Amongst the class of 1999 governors, he remains one of the renowned very important persons with a known source of cash flow as recognized by Forbes magazine and several other global financial journals.

‎His rise from a young businessman to a bank chairman, rep member, governor, senator, and national statesman stands as one of the most compelling success stories of his generation a story that continues to inspire young Nigerians to believe that greatness is possible, regardless of where they start.

‎In a nation constantly searching for examples of perseverance and achievement, the life of Orji Uzor Kalu serves as a reminder that ambition, hard work, and resilience can transform youthful dreams into a legacy that spans generations.

Orji Uzo Kalu, a former bank chairman of a no longer existing bank. PO a former chairman of fidelity at 34 and 31 years later the bank is waxing even stronger. That is the difference between man of little worth and a man of value with legacy. Judge for yourself.
