NAF EARNS INTERNATIONAL COMBAT MEDICAL TRAINING ACCREDITATION, ENHANCES OPERATIONAL READINESS

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), in collaboration with the German Technical Advisory Group (GTAG), has achieved a significant milestone in combat medical capability following the accreditation of the Air Mobile First Aid Unit (AMFAU) of the Nigerian Air Force School of Medical Sciences and Aviation Medicine (NAFSMSAM), Kaduna, by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT), USA. The achievement was marked by the successful conduct of the first-ever NAEMT-accredited Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training in Nigeria, positioning AMFAU among a select group of accredited NAEMT training centres in West Africa and reinforcing the NAF's commitment to developing world-class combat medical capabilities.

The Tactical Combat Casualty Care programme is globally recognised as the gold standard in battlefield medicine, equipping personnel with critical lifesaving skills required to manage trauma and medical emergencies in operational environments. The training reflects the NAF's commitment to international best practices and comes at a time when the Service remains actively engaged in counter-insurgency, counter-terrorism and other joint military operations across the country. By strengthening combat medical expertise, the NAF is enhancing force protection, operational resilience and mission effectiveness while improving its capacity to support both operational and humanitarian contingencies.

Speaking on the achievement, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, described the accreditation and successful conduct of the inaugural TCCC course as a strategic advancement in the Nigerian Air Force's drive towards operational excellence. He noted that the capability would significantly enhance operational readiness and survival outcomes during military operations, adding that "every life saved on the battlefield strengthens operational effectiveness and contributes directly to the successful accomplishment of the Nigerian Air Force's mandate in support of national security objectives." The event, hosted by the Commandant of NAFSMSAM, Air Vice Marshal AC Ekpe, also witnessed the formal activation of AMFAU as an accredited NAEMT Training Centre and highlighted the enduring partnership between the NAF and GTAG in advancing military medical training, combat casualty care and capacity development.

NAF ADVANCES SPECIAL FORCES PREPAREDNESS THROUGH AIR-TO-GROUND INTEGRATION TRAINING

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance operational effectiveness and strengthen joint force capabilities, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), through the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre (AWDC), conducted an Air-to-Ground Integration training package from 4 to 6 June 2026 for trainees of the ongoing Special Forces Course 13/2026 at the Regiment Training Centre Annex (RTCA), Bauchi. The training reflects the Chief of the Air Staff's commitment to developing a highly professional, agile and mission-ready force capable of effectively addressing contemporary security challenges.

The training was designed to deepen participants' understanding of joint operations and enhance their ability to effectively integrate air power into ground missions. Trainees were exposed to key principles, procedures and operational considerations required for seamless coordination between air and ground forces. The package highlighted the critical role of air assets in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), close air support, casualty evacuation, aerial resupply and rapid force projection during special operations. Speaking during the training, the Commandant of RTCA Bauchi, Squadron Leader Edeama Lawrence Akpan, emphasised the growing importance of air-to-ground integration in modern warfare. He noted that successful mission accomplishment increasingly depends on effective synchronisation between air and ground elements, particularly in complex operational environments.

Resource persons from AWDC delivered presentations on mission planning, communication procedures, target acquisition, airspace coordination measures, close air support procedures and the responsibilities of ground forces in the employment of air power. The interactive sessions provided participants with opportunities to engage facilitators, seek clarifications and gain deeper insight into the planning and execution of joint operations. The training aligns with the Chief of the Air Staff's emphasis on operational effectiveness, doctrinal development and capacity building as critical enablers of mission success. It also supports the NAF's commitment to producing highly skilled and combat-ready Special Forces personnel capable of operating effectively within a joint operational framework.

NAF PRECISION STRIKES DESTROY TERRORIST ENCLAVE, NEUTRALISE SCORES OF TERRORISTS IN LAKE CHAD REGION

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), under the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, has recorded another major operational success following precision air strikes that destroyed a terrorist enclave and neutralised scores of terrorists at METELE in the Northern Tumbuns area of the Lake Chad Basin. The operation, conducted in the early hours of 10 June 2026, was launched after credible intelligence and subsequent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions confirmed the presence of a senior terrorist commander, terrorist hideouts, and heightened terrorist activity within the area.

Acting on the intelligence, NAF air assets engaged the identified targets with precision. Upon arrival, aircrew observed significant terrorist movement around the concealed structures, confirming the presence of hostile elements. Following positive target identification, the aircraft executed devastating strikes on the designated locations. Post-strike Battle Damage Assessment confirmed the destruction of the terrorist enclave and the neutralisation of scores of terrorists.

Reacting to the successful operation, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the personnel involved and reaffirmed the NAF's commitment to sustaining relentless pressure on terrorist elements. He stated: "We will continue to leverage our air power capabilities to locate, strike, and destroy terrorist targets wherever they are found. The Nigerian Air Force remains resolute in denying terrorists freedom of action and ensuring they have no safe haven within our sovereign territory."

OPERATION HADIN KAI RECORDS MAJOR SUCCESS AS HIGH-PROFILE ISWAP COMMANDERS SURRENDER UNDER SUSTAINED MILITARY PRESSURE

Operation HADIN KAI has recorded another significant success in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign following the surrender of two high-profile Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) commanders to troops on 8 June 2026. The surrendered terrorists, identified as Ismail Mohammed and Abu Umar, are currently in military custody and undergoing appropriate profiling and debriefing procedures.

Preliminary assessments indicate that the two individuals occupied strategic positions within the terrorist hierarchy and operated within the Mangari axis of the Lake Chad region. One of the surrendered commanders, Ismail Mohammed was a close associate of senior ISWAP Leader Baa Shuwa and possessed extensive knowledge of the group’s command structure and activities. The second individual, Abu Umar, was widely known within the terrorist network as a skilled explosives specialist with responsibilities linked to the fabrication and maintenance of vehicle borne improvised explosive devices and other combat-support equipment used by the terrorists. Interrogation further revealed that another high profile terrorist, Mohammed Khalifa, a member the ISWAP Shurah Council was neutralised during the joint operations by OPHK.

OPERATION HADIN KAI DELIVERS ANOTHER DECISIVE BLOW TO ISWAP TERRORISTS

The Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI has once again demonstrated its operational dominance and combat readiness by successfully defeating ISWAP attack and launching a devastating counter-offensive against the terrorists in the Buratai axis.

In the early hours of 19 June 2026, ISWAP terrorists launched multiple attacks on troops' locations at Dusten Kura and Chara road in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State. The alert troops, supported by robust intelligence, promptly detected the incursion and responded with superior firepower in a well-coordinated air and ground counter-attack.

The prompt and effective employment of the Air Component of OPHK, particularly Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance as well as precision strike platforms from the Nigerian Air force, proved decisive. The precision air support integrated seamlessly with ground forces, disrupted the terrorists' assault and inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers, forcing them to flee in confusion. It is worthy to note that no casualties were recorded on own troops, while the terrorists suffered significant losses in personnel and equipment.

This latest success underscores the high state of readiness of OPHK troops and the synergy between the ground and air components in maintaining relentless pressure on the terrorists. The Theatre Command remains committed to denying insurgents freedom of action and ensuring the safety of law-abiding citizens across the North East theatre.

The public is urged to continue providing timely intelligence to security forces and to remain vigilant. OPHK would comtinue to sustain aggressive offensive operations to decisively degrade terrorist capabilities and restore lasting peace to the region.
