Better do your job.

When your child grows up let him or her understand that sacrificing your time with family to provide what billions of families do not have is also one of the ultimate sacrifices a man could make.

Many men would love to stay home and play video games with their kids and see madam in the other room or be part of every key moments but real love won't allow them to do that as often as they wish. They must be at the battlefront when it comes to provision for family.

When you fight for your country and the honors & memories are highlighted later in life when you can't play anymore your child's immense pride will render any other consideration inconsequential.

Some time ago I posted a comment in a thread where I mentioned that I was nervous on the day my wife gave birth to our first child. My elder sister who was taking the delivery asked me to leave because I was distracting her.

A female Nairalander replied to my comment and said that I should be more courageous and stay with my wife next time, as my presence would be a source of encouragement to her. I don't know if you were the one who mentioned me that day. I can't remember the moniker.

So if about 4 player's wives are at the point of delivery, they should be allowed to go home?
Nonsense.

Even if it's the first child? Is the child running away. Won't he see the child after the world cup, what if he's in prison or at the war front?

So if he's a commander in the army, would he abandon his soldiers at war to be there when his child is born?
Men don't understand what it is to be men anymore.
The world has been diluted with too much sentimentalism.

What you don't get is, his head will not be in the game.

What is the point of fielding a player who wouldn't be present emotionally and mentally?

So, you turned off your phone while your wife was in labour about to birth your second child? No wonder it was "magical" for you. undecided
Calm down first before you attack me o.

She was on the mainland (with my parents). I had already called her that night and we've said the usual good night, love you, bla bla bla.

Normally, I don't leave my phone on whenever I want to go to bed. Not even on vibration or silence mode. Because the slightest sound will wake me up and I won't be able to fall back to sleep.

Shey you don understand me now ba? Before you think sey I no be caring husband.

Then he's very selfish. Didn't he know his wife is due before accepting the national call.
They're thousands of Belgian players wishing to be in that world cup but didn't get the chance, and here he's giving flimsy excuse.
Doesn't he have phone and internet that he can use and stream the birth. Like the lady said, what's the use of him being there in the first place? Or is he the doctor that will deliver the baby

Exactly. The due date was already known. He should have declined world cup invite and focus on his family. The nation has many other available footballers.

Lolz.

I see what you did there! cheesy cheesy

But let's be sincere with ourselves, wanting to leave the camp at such a crucial stage isn't right. His country needs him, also, his newborn will still be there when he gets home.

In Yoruba land, children born when their father is away on duty are called "ABIDEMI". Doku should even use that as a motivation to want to bring the cup home.

Unless it's a case of life & death or that no one will look after his pregnant wife & newborn, he should bear it nau. It's just for a few days.

What a rubbish excuse!

Imagine a soldier saying he'll abandon his duties (and comrades) at the front line to witness the birth of his first child.

I was only fortunate to witness the birth of my first child because I was at home on that day. Even at that, the hospital staff sent me out at the crucial moment when I couldn't stop pacing around the ward.

But you see the birth of my second child, that one was magical. I woke up in the morning, turned on my phone and called my wife to ask after her. And she casually announce to me that she had put to birth. I thought she was joking until the messages started flying in. Apparently, she put to bed in the middle of the night while I was snoring away my tiredness (from work).

Child birth is a wonderful moment no doubt, but a soldier must never abandon his duty post or his comrades at the front line.

What a lame excuse not to be at your wife's side during childbirth. Now you see a responsible father to be wanting to do the right thing and you are criticising him.

Fatherhood doesn't start and end with sex. Learn how to show support to your wife during her most difficult period.

It's the first child that triggers the excitement. I won't imagine myself being absent during my first child womb escape.

Subsequent ones usually don't.

only difference between war and world cup is nobody is getting killed. It's a contest and the country's pride and glory are at stake here.

The only issue I have with this player is that if he knew he wanted to be present at the birth of his child, he shouldn't have gone to the world cup, depriving another player the chance.
It's not like he didn't know when the baby is due to arrive.

Family is everything but they are some situation you can’t but to sit down and pray for the safe delivery of your child.

My second and last child I’ve not been around due to the nature of my job offshore….. and my wife understand that and money must be made to take care of the homefront.

Sometimes we have to make sacrifice…..

She was far gone but not in labour.

Whenever my wife's pregnancy clocks 7 months, I don pack both she and her load go mainland, so that my parents can look after her well.

On that day, they were even watching ZEEWORLD in the parlour and laughing ha ha ha ha like HYENAS.

Only for me to call her the next morning and she said she had put to bed. That's why I referred to it as "magical".
