More often than none, the real government is shrouded in secrecy. When people begin to spill the real reasons behind some resignations, protests may become the order of the day. Most world leaders have an oath of secrecy which they are duty bound to follow. There are still individuals who appear bigger than some governments those interests must be protected. |

Good riddance to garbage. Hands down the most incompetent and incapable PM in British history. He knows his ill fated party is on the way out so he's jumping ship before it sinks. |

What kinda system of government is this with no fixed number of years for the tenure of the head of government? Prime minister coming and going at any time. Some 2 months, others weeks, just a few stay for years like Tony Blair, Margaret Thatcher, John Major and a few others. |

manitobor:Welcome to UK politics. It does have it's benefits. It keeps their governments on their toes, knowing they can be removed at any time. More often than not, a party stays in power for a long period not because they are doing well, but because the oppositon is in a mess. |

As expected, that's UK politics for you. Very volatile and nothing is guaranteed. Don't be surprised that the anointed Andy Burnham will not be the prime minister to lead the Labour Party in the next general election in 2029 |
| Re: UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer To Announce Resignation On Monday by nairalanda1(m): 3:56pm On Jun 21 |
Dreal1247:Nah. Margaret Thatcher was in power for over 11 years. And she didn't exactly have the best of relationships with the then ruling monarch. (who at one time had to essentially tell her to know her place, subtly). What brought thatcher down and what is bringing starmer down is the economy. And(for starmer) immigration. |

I don't get this, not in support of his resignation. They voted in large numbers for him, and not the interloper about to take his job. There should be constitutional amendment in UK whereby if MPs want to change their leader, then a general election ought to take place!! You shouldn't be allowed to change the People's mandate at any moment without their consent. |

Nothing special this is what we call leadership not the nonsense mentality you have in Nigeria When someone resign ona go come out open ona Stinky mouth say he is incompetent Tinubu resign.... Just as Nixon of American When u can't do well let other people Throughout United Kingdom history, 45 out of the 56 Prime Ministers who have left office have resigned. However, mid-term resignations (stepping down voluntarily or being forced out due to scandal, health, or political pressure, rather than an election loss) have occurred about 13 times. The most recent mid-term resignations include:Rishi Sunak (2024): Resigned as Prime Minister and Conservative Party leader on July 5, 2024, following a general election defeat.Liz Truss (2022): Resigned on October 25, 2022, after just 45 days in office following a turbulent economic fallout, making her the shortest-serving premier in UK history.Boris Johnson (2022): Resigned as Prime Minister on July 7, 2022, following a wave of resignations from his own cabinet and loss of party support.Theresa May (2019): Stepped down on July 24, 2019, after failing to pass her Brexit withdrawal agreement.David Cameron (2016): Resigned on July 13, 2016, following the results of the EU referendum. |
