Should I Relocate To Lagos by TechToyin(op): 11:07pm On Jun 21
Hello everyone,

I’ll be turning 25 in July, and as I approach this milestone, I’ve been thinking seriously about my next big step in life.

I currently live in Kaduna with my parents and have a stable, comfortable life. I work as a teacher and also earn additional income from research writing and occasional website development gigs. I hold a Second Class Upper (2:1) degree in Biochemistry and consider myself fairly tech-savvy.

Lately, I’ve been feeling that it’s time to challenge myself and pursue bigger opportunities. Lagos keeps coming to mind because of the career prospects, networking opportunities, and the fast-paced environment that seems ideal for personal and professional growth.

My biggest challenge is accommodation. I don't currently have a place to stay in Lagos, and that uncertainty is making the decision difficult.

For those who have made a similar move, especially from northern Nigeria to Lagos, would you advise taking the leap? How did you handle accommodation and the initial transition? Do you think moving to Lagos could be a worthwhile investment in my future?

I’m considering making this move as a birthday gift to myself and would really appreciate your advice, experiences, and suggestions.

Thank you.

Forget about every negative jabs about Lagos. Lagos is the UK or United States of Nigeria therefore there is great opportunities in Lagos more than any other states because almost all the indigens of every states of Nigeria resides in Lagos.

I was born in Lagos, schioled in Lagos and still living in my own personal house in Lagos after having travelled out several times. Although, some parts of Lagos are know for crimes but that depends on your personal lifestyles. There are good security in Lagos as well because we have funtioning police force , local force (OPC), Nigerian Legion etc.

Do not listen to fears but listen to your heart because your heart is where God speaks to you if the thought is coming constantly. However, keep applying for job online and always visit Newspaper vendors for jobs advert. Also do not leave your current job until you can get a new one in Lagos. If you have time you can visit cities like Ikeja, Victoria Island, Gbagada, etc and hold copies of your CV (visits from Mondays to Wednesdays). You can do this once in a month while you stay in a cheap hotel for the duration of your visit.

The only thing to fear is fear itself .

Note: If you are a christian you can visit churches like RCCG, MFM, Celestial church , Anglican church etf for temporary accommodation help during your visit if you dont mind. If you are a muslim many mosque will allow you to sleep during your 3 days visit. This is your last resort for accommodation if you cannot affors hotel for the 3 days visit .

Your biggest mistake in a place like Nigeria is to move to another location " in search of opportunities."

Relax bro.

Take life easy.
Stay where you are and keep pushing.
Little do you know, your trip to Lagos may be for a Visa interview and not for squatting with friends.

Lagos is overcrowded already and there's a surge in the price of acccomodation. However, there are lots of opportunities over here.
Should you insist on coming to Lagos, my best bet would be to live in Ogun State or find areas with moderate housing costs.

The gentleman should make the move to Lagos, though Abuja might be better since he would be closer to home.

Do you work online as a teacher or Nigerian employed teacher.
Learn from my mistake.
The biggest mistake you can make is to rent house without first securing job.
First secure job in lagos.
Find someone to stay with in a year or 6 months before renting your own house to understand lagos environment.
You might rent house first and issues might arise. .landlord problem , renting house where there is no light ,water or network

Re: Should I Relocate To Lagos by HospitalityTech: 9:06am On Jun 22
In my assessment and experience, Lagos have jobs and networking opportunities and as well good social life. Just as you highlighted about accommodation, transportation is also a big problem. So you need to do your research very well before making the move such as affordable locality that you can easily navigate within the cities and surrounding metropolis.

Have plans to fall back on in Kaduna, Incase Lagos does not go well. Meanwhile, start applying for jobs online and you might be lucky to get an interview.

Above all, fast and pray for God,'s wisdom and guidance and he will reveal to you what is to come. The mistake we make sometimes is to lean on our own understanding.
