Warning: Sunday Igboho's Actions May Fuel Ethnic and Religious Tensions

Nigeria's strength has always rested on its diversity. From the Hausa-Fulani in the North to the Yoruba in the South-West and the Igbo in the South-East, the country is home to hundreds of ethnic groups that have coexisted despite numerous challenges. However, recent developments and inflammatory statements by some ethnic agitators like Sunday Igboho have raised concerns among observers who fear that such rhetoric could deepen divisions and threaten national unity.

Analysts warn that when influential figures repeatedly single out Fulani ethnic group for criticism, threats, or blame, the consequences can be dangerous. Such narratives have the potential to fuel mistrust, provoke reprisals, and create an atmosphere of fear among ordinary citizens who have no connection to criminal activities.

Many Nigerians argue that criminality is not exclusive to any ethnic group. Across the country, individuals from different backgrounds have been implicated in kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry, cybercrime, and other offences. Consequently, security challenges should be addressed through law enforcement and justice mechanisms rather than ethnic profiling or collective condemnation.

Observers also urge government authorities and security agencies to remain vigilant and address emerging tensions before they spiral out of control. According to them, preventing violence is far less costly than managing its aftermath.

As Nigeria continues its journey toward nation-building, many believe that unity, tolerance, and mutual respect remain indispensable. The country can only progress when citizens judge individuals by their actions rather than their ethnic identities. In a nation of diverse cultures and traditions, preserving peace must remain a collective responsibility.

So all the atrocities being committed by the Fulani is not already fueling religious and ethnic tension but rather the rhetorics of one man?
Which other ethnic group is doing what Fulani is doing in Nigeria from mass murder under the guise of farmers herders clash to large scale kidnappings.
What I see here is cowardice hiding under observers this analysts that.
Anyway, that is how you people reason for that side

Words of a coward who will rather allow his people to be sacrificed by the blood sucking bandits. Am an advocate of one Nigeria but that reality is fading up everyday if an ethnic group is kidnapping, killing and Maiming others and nothing is been done at the federal level.

Okay o. So Tinubu is now legalising a militia from his own tribe that is actively promoting pogrom against another ethnic group right? Is this any different from what Nnamdi Kanu did that made Tinubu send him to prison? Continue. We know all these are just to destabilise Seyi Makinde's hold on the state and shore up support for Tinubu that is fast dwindling, even in his base.

Re: Warning: Sunday Igboho's Actions May Fuel Ethnic And Religious Tensions by AMINDA: 6:19am On Jun 22
A president and C-in-C who capitulates to non-state actors and legalises a militia from his tribe in a multi-ethnic country like Nigeria leaves so much to be desired on what his true intentions are.

If Tinubu didn't do that then he's not a true son of the land. He should empower the militia group to be able to over power the terrorists hiding inside our bush and killing people.
Flush them out with brutality.

Unless he's suffering from imposter syndrome, he's the Commander-in-Chief and if competent, could have used the legal security forces at his disposal to overpower the terrorists. He will rather use the security forces against political opponents and to scuttle political parties.

On what moral ground did he send Nnamdi Kanu to prison if he will turn around to empower an ethnic militia from his own tribe? Apart from radicalising a substantial number of Yoruba youths, this fools errand by Igboho, complete with cameras and gaslighting will achieve nothing but regrets.

Sometimes speak from reasoning. For how long will people be kidnapped and when have you written this epistle stating clearly that if a particular tribe amplify kidnapping has a business it can cause ethnical tension. I knew when fulani are good, but how all of a sudden most of them turn kidnapping to business, not minding if the person is rich or poor. I condemn this barbaric act. If you can't speak against Kidnapping with your full mouth op, please keep quiet let every tribe do what they know best to curb this madness.

Who care if there is ethnical crisis or not, so far peace is restore.

Oga, kindly ronu!

I might not agree with Igboho in so many ways

First with the establishment of this new security outfit will they be properly funded?
Are they trained or equipped enough to face such people with heavy artillery?
Is there a reason Igboho is coming out now to fight bandits after he was arrested in his home?
Is the government of today giving us that impression that they cant fight banditry and terrorism after purchasing weapons and fighter jets?
Is the combo of army, police and civil defense not enough to fight those bastards kidnapping innocent people?

The last time I checked Igboho is not a military officer and also should be sensible enough not to put people’s lives in jeopardy all in the name of “Iru Ekun”

For me he talks too much for someone that really wants to fight insurgents and he should avoid labelling one tribe as criminals because in every tribe there is a Judas.

Igboho is right to name a tribe criminal. Their leaders cannot be aiding this boys and you expect everyone to open teeth with them. Let them keep their rubbish in their land where they're entertaining them.

No one from the SW has ever left his or her region to be causing havoc in another people's region.

Igboho and his boys doesn't needs Army or police to fight the beasts. Let them fight them in a dirty way that they would understand. You only fight people with brain with army or police, let the Igboho boys do them what they have been doing others.

What's more likely to trigger ethnic war than a particular tribe invading every nook and crany of the country and kidnapping people for ransom?
So that's not enough reason for you, but the reaction to the problem is your issue? Why don't you talk about the cause and let's see if the effects will still be an issue?
