LASBCA REMOVES DISTRESSED BUILDING AT NO. 10 OLUFEMI PEDRO STREET, PARKVIEW ESTATE, IKOYI

… GM says action taken to protect lives and adjoining properties

The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has removed a distressed building located at No. 10 Olufemi Pedro Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, as part of efforts to safeguard lives and properties within the area.

The six-floor residential structure was identified during a routine monitoring exercise carried out by officials of the Agency within the Ikoyi-Obalende District. The inspection revealed several structural defects and infractions that necessitated the removal of the building.

Findings from the inspection showed that the building had developed serious structural defects, including foundation failure and visible signs of sinking. The structure also exhibited differential settlement, indicating movement within the foundation.

Further observations revealed vertical cracks on structural elements, diagonal cracks on structural members, horizontal cracks on structural elements, as well as cracks on the floors and perimeter fence.

Officials of the Agency also observed that the building had started sinking, thereby raising concerns about its structural stability and the safety of adjoining properties.

The Agency further discovered that the property lacked the required building documents, which constituted an additional infraction.

Prior to the removal exercise, LASBCA served the property with all the necessary statutory notices, including Contravention Notice for Distressed Structure, Seal-Up Notice, and Demolition Notice in accordance with the provisions of the law.

The building had earlier been sealed by the Enforcement Department of the Agency, while site inspections, documentation, photographs, and other enforcement procedures were duly carried out.

According to the Agency's report, the owner or developer had not responded to the notices served on the property as at the time the report was prepared.

Speaking on the development, the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, Bldr. Gbaye Florence, stated that the removal of the building became necessary due to the level of distress observed on the structure.

According to her, the presence of foundation failure, cracks on structural elements, differential settlement, and the sinking condition of the building made immediate action necessary.

Bldr. Florence stated that the Agency remains committed to ensuring public safety through continuous monitoring and enforcement of building control regulations across the state.

She noted that the decision to remove the distressed structure was taken to prevent possible building collapse that could result in loss of lives and damage to adjoining properties.

The General Manager further urged property owners and developers to comply with building regulations and obtain the necessary approvals and documents before embarking on construction projects.

She also advised owners of distressed buildings to promptly address structural defects and cooperate with the Agency whenever notices are issued.

LASBCA reiterated its commitment to protecting residents and ensuring that buildings within Lagos State conform to approved standards and safety requirements.

The Agency assured members of the public that it will continue to monitor buildings across the state and take necessary actions where structures pose threats to lives and properties.

I just feel pity for people who are still cleaving to that hell hole of a state.

Immediately you relocate to Lagos, start planning your relocation back with a 10 year limit AT LEAST to a descrete and minnimalist life of contentment. Same to those that travel out.

The kind of oppression the goverment is showing the citizens shows the kind of people in Government. Justice with no mercy, usinng legality to justify corruption, wickedness, heartlessnness envy jelousy and all sorts.

If there is no regime change, the oppression will get worse.

What about burnt-down Great Nigeria House on Martin Street in Lagos Island??

That's a freaking 22 storey building and a massive tragedy waiting to happen!

Even viewed from 3rd mainland Bridge is scary and frightening much less being anywhere in Balogun and environs!

Lagos State should do something as urgently as LAST 3 MONTHS!
