Media Adviser and spokesperson to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Mr Paul Ibe, has said that President Bola Tinubu should resign over what he described as the government’s failure to address insecurity across the country.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Tuesday, Ibe argued that the primary responsibility of any government is to ensure the security and welfare of its citizens.

According to him, Nigeria is less secure now than it was in 2023, citing figures which he claimed showed that 879 people had been killed, while nearly 300 others remained in captivity.

He described the statistics as alarming and said they reflected the scale of insecurity facing the country.

Ibe further stated that the government’s efforts to tackle the situation had not yielded sufficient results, stressing that the country could not continue with what he termed a “trial and error” approach to governance.

He said: “Let me tell you why President Tinubu needs to resign. The primary responsibility of government is security and welfare. Are we more secure now than we were in 2023? The answer is No.

“According to statistics, 879 people have been killed, and nearly 300 are in captivity. Those statistics are very frightening. That’s a snapshot of the pervasive insecurity that we have.

“The government’s efforts are not good enough. I mean, we can’t continue on this journey of trial and error. The truth of the matter is that Tinubu is incompetent and clueless.”

You told Goodluck Jonathan to resign because of insecurity. Today, under your administration, insecurity is arguably worse.

If any of our leaders even at the grassroot level had any of those qualities, many of them would have resigned in shame of the current situation of the country.

Nigeria was not paradise under Jonathan. Nigeria was a security disaster, and an economic disaster under Jonathan and that is what made APC attractive to many. But as we have seen, things have gotten worse.

They way you Southerners reason and talk, perhaps because you hate each other, is the reason insecurity has now become a major problem for Nigeria.

Security is the duty of all. This disgraceful Paul Ibe is working for Atiku and the North when we do not see any effort from the leaders (political , cultural, military, religious etc) of the region to tackle insecurity.

Insecurity in the North is a system of tacit support and funding of terrorism and banditry at all levels. The women who enter the forest to treat the wounds of bandits, feed them food and information plus have sex with them are going to be stopped how?

No Southerner, if we know how to think and seek solutions, should be making any demand other than insisting Northern leaders at all levels, move to fight and end terror emanating from their communities.

Look at how the Yorubas, as usual, have been example moving to fight insecurity they did not cause yet the North, that has blighted with terrorism and banditry, appears disinterested in tackling the bandits and terrorists amongst them they know very well?

Check below the list of rtd Generals who stepped up to head Amotekun and fight insecurity in the SW. Where is the effort of their Northern equivalent? You Southerners, starting with the likes of Paul Ibe, are disappointing with how you think, talk and attack yourselves yet can never face those who are the real problem and must be tackled for insecurity to end or reduce drastically.
