The truth about fish farming is that you need large quantities to break even. Imagine stocking 1,500 juveniles and having fed them for like three months, all of them weighed a meagre 132.24kg!.
The market people bought it at 2,500 per kilo which amounted to an approximate 330,000 naira!

I almost lost my mid that day.

However, the business is lucrative if you have the money to feed up to table size and in large quantites. Another way to make your profit is by smoking them yourself.
Take for instance, if you smoke 20kg of fresh fish, it will give you 5kg.
now do the math:

20kg of fresh fish multiplied by 2,500 will give you 50,000
however, smoked size of 5kg at 22,000 naira per kg gives you
22,000 multiplied by 5 which is 110,000! See the large difference.

Currently I have stocked another 2,000 pieces of Juvenile and I intend to raise them to table sizes God willing as the reserve cash is there

I stock post fingerlings 2000 pcs , total weight about 200kg at 2 months.Not an easy business,it is better to raise till 1KG but market demands is low compared to 250g to 400g
