Police Heads in states, regions or counties are elected, not appointed. This State Police in Nigeria shall end up a failure, like everything in Nigeria if state governors are allowed to appoint Police Commissioner for the states. |

Basic123:What of restructuring the lopsided political structure of Nigeria created by northern military dictators who sewed sates like seeds in the old Northern region? The skewed political structure enables the arrangee presidents that emerge from every presidential election. |

What do you expect? Unseating any sitting governor will be very difficult. In fact, the opposition needs to re-strategize its campaign. All the governors will be jubilating now so they can position themselves well ahead of the next election with this new development. Juliette5803: |

Juliette5803:br that the iissh, i think the lawmarkers can come up with laws that capture the governor control with clauses, that mitigte abusebof power thelegislative should bind the governors with clauses subset to full authority on state police |

1. Who will be funding the state police? If it will be the State Govts, will the FG increase allocations to states? 2. Are the governors mandated to appoint their indigenes as Commissioners or otherwise? 3. Are police officers going to be redeployed to their respective states of origin effective immediately? 4. What if the preferred candidate of the governor is not up to the rank of being a Commissioner, is the governor empowered to forcefully retire a senior officer who is not is choice just to clear the way for his own candidate? 5. Are the governors only empowered to appoint? Or they can both appoint and dismiss? 6. Is the salary scale of police officers going to be the same across states or the governors will decide on what to pay? |

The Best Decision In Checkmating the Terrorists,Bandits,Kidnappers and Sponsorers . Let be known that ANY ACT OF TERRORISM BANDITS AND KIDNAPPERS -FOR MONEY - IN ANY STATE OR LOCAL GOVT - THE RESPONSIBILITY SHOULD LIE SQUARELY ON THE STATE GOVERNORS,THE TRADITIONAL RULERS AND THE LOCALS - FOR THEY CAN CLAIM TO BE IGNORANT OF WHAT IS GOING ON AT THEIR STATES AND BASES! |

Basic123:Let me put it to you that all these aforementioned achievements are all inconsequential because of the rising ugly heads of insecurity and economic hardship in Nigeria as at today. The stings of insecurity and economic hardship is felt badly by the majority of Nigerians as at today;this is in sharp contrast to the gains of those achievements which are not felt by the majority of the masses except a privilege few. So it's better BAT got it right with security and economic prosperity than those propaganda achievements you enumerated up there. |

The next important reform is resource control by individual states, follow by regional commercial banks, decentralisation of NNPCL to regional oil companies and CBN to go regional with regional governors. |

@Basic123, you're a beautiful mind, so unlike many here, who just parrot nonsense and pander to naysayers. You've clearly articulated PBAT bold reforms. It's only people who are clear -headed that can grasp these things. Two days ago, Senegal was on borderline economic collapse because they kept subsidising fuel. Populism or populist ideas or whims will only give you passing approval. But when the dust settles, you stare down the barrel. Before PBAT took reins, Nigeria was very close... Perhaps, a hair away from economic collapse. Buhari didn't make provision for subsidy in June 2023, because there was no money for that. PBAT will go down as Nigeria's most significant leader within the brackets of our chequered history. |
