My Agent Fraudulently Added a Woman as My Wife in My Visa Application, UK-Based Nigerian Tells Court

A United Kingdom-based Nigerian, Emmanuel Opeyemi Makinde, has told Justice Ademuyiwa Oyeyipo of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, sitting in Jabi, Abuja, that his travel agent, Mr Waliyu Aderibigbe Shitta, fraudulently added a woman to his visa application in 2022 as his wife.

Opeyemi, in his evidence-in-chief before the court, stated that the travel agent added one Miss Dolapo Afusat Yusuf as his legally married wife.

Mr Opeyemi further stated that the defendant was introduced to him by his Pastor, Mr Aregbesola Sanyanolu of Celestial Church of Christ, Jerusalem Parish, Ado-Ekiti.

According to him, the information provided by the agent later created serious problems for him with the UK authorities when he decided to bring his wife to the United Kingdom.

The travel agent is currently standing trial before the court for allegedly arranging a fraudulent marriage for Miss Dolapo Afusat Yusuf in order to facilitate her travel abroad using the identity of Mr Opeyemi, a Nigerian citizen residing in the United Kingdom.

He told the court:

“Throughout my dealings with the defendant, I consistently informed him that I was single for the purpose of my UK student visa application. After my wife completed her studies in 2024, I submitted an application for her to join me in the United Kingdom.

“One day while I was at work, I received an email from the UK Home Office requesting that I provide official evidence demonstrating that my partner’s previous marriage had been officially dissolved by the relevant court.

“I immediately sent a voice note to the defendant together with a screenshot of the Home Office email, explaining the consequences of the message I had received. After viewing the message, he blocked me on WhatsApp.

“I then contacted my Pastor and informed him that we needed to report the defendant to the authorities. However, my Pastor stopped responding to my messages and calls.

“Two days later, I replied to the Home Office and informed them that I had never been married to any woman other than my wife. The visa application was refused because the Home Office believed that I already had a marriage on record in the United Kingdom.”

He further told the court that the defendant instructed him to answer “yes” when he was asked during his biometric appointment whether all supporting documents had been uploaded.

Mr Opeyemi stated that at no point did he instruct the defendant to include Miss Dolapo Afusat Yusuf as his wife in any visa application.

He further stated that he consistently informed the defendant that he was applying for the visa alone and that there was no dependant on his application.

The matter was subsequently adjourned until 7 October for the continuation of his evidence before the court.

So from all the above, the complainant clearly was aware of the issue from the onset when he consented with “yes” at the biometric appointment, showing that he definitely went to the British high commission with his fake wife to complete the visa process, as they applied as a married couple, presenting fake marriage documents.

The complainant being very naive, willing to do the agent a favour, trusting the agent and seeing that his own application would be successful, forgot that a day would come for his original wife to relocate to the UK and unite with him. Everything backfired and he lost it all.

It was a very huge blunder on his part and would be termed fraudulent. Along with his wife, he may not enter the UK anymore. Even the fraudulent wife’s visa would be revoked and she would be sent back.

Hopefully the crooked visa agent gets dealt with in the court.

I always send the pdf copy of completed form to my clients before submitting the visa application. So they can check.

Some agents can put you into trouble. Fake certificate attracts 10 year visa ban for UK.

No way so that the dubious agent goes on with the same cycle to try such nonsense again hoodwinking more unsuspecting clients into dubious marriages and collecting all the extra charges 100% to himself .

Visa agents eh... dem dey do wonders. They once submitted visa applications for individuals to USA Embassy Abuja claiming that they are part of my team for a US trip. As God would have it, a consular staff at the Embassy called me for confirmation and I flatly told her I wasn't aware of any such team. I followed up with an official letter to the Embassy to distance myself from the application.

Not sure its as easy as that.
Fake wife exist with a marriage certificate that carries a date which means he can only get legally married after the fake divorce date.
If his original marriagecarries a date precedes his fake divorce date, he is toast.

Go to court and divorce her and that settles it. Both visas will remain valid then bring your original wife.

Student visa that is supposed to be straightforward u went and pay agent. This our mentality of paying someone to do something is part of what fuels corruption in this country. Even to change dob on nin ppl will prefer to go and pay 50k to an Nin agent instead of doing it themselves and paying the normal fees. Ordinary international passport and driver's licence u go see young guys who go school paying agent to do for them.

Are you minding such a crook. Only people that don't know what applying for UK visa means will fall for this bullshit story. Imagine how long he was already in the UK before trying to bring his legitimate wife then he forgot that he actually entered the UK claiming to have a ghost wife. Who no waka no fit ever know how far. The funny thing is that the British are well to smart to detect a foolish lie and so they will definitely give a clean judgment without error.
I can only wish him a good stay in detention at the moment and a safe flight back home on deportation.
Some Nigerians are terrible, I can never forget one of my trips from UK to Nigeria on holiday. There were some deportees in the plane that day. You need to see how they were chained and carried into the plane like Christmas goats. I was in disbelief but then I saw why they were treated like that because they were insulting the officers and promising to ensure the plane doesn't get to Nigeria. Myself and other people were scared and decided we were not comfortable flying in same plane anymore until the officers made us understand that they deal with such cases on a regular basis and so we should be calm because once the plane takes off and it's gets to about 2-3 hours out of the 6 hours flight, they will all become sober because then it will dawn on them that they are already heading back home and there is nothing they can do. Honestly speaking, just as the officers said, that's exactly what happened and that was the time (about half way the flight) they removed them from chains and they were all very sober till we landed Nigeria in peace.

This case is so strange. Did the guy forget he had done fake marriage with someone before applying for his real wife again to join him?

What does he mean by the Agent ask him to say all his supporting documents had been uploaded? Was he trying to say he said "yes" to being married when he was taking his fake wife abroad?

This story abound and you can trust the Home office to catch a lot of people. I heard of stories of some women who are dependants to some guys. They did arranged marriage. Now those ladies wanted to have kids as time was not on their side. Sadly any kids they have will have the name of the fake dude written on the birth certificate of the kids. How do you explain to kids to carry fake father's names on their birth certificates for the rest of their lives?

People should stop being desperate. There are repercussions and consequences for every act. The question is - does it worth it at the end?l

The agent will walk free. He only needs to tell the court that what he told him was what he presented in his visa application. That's all.

Na the fake wife no gree fulfill her own part of the visa processing financial obligations immediately she got over there and dude has no other options after consultations with agent and supposed pastor that is aware of the said arrange than to head to court!
