There is no caging here. State police is here to stay. Those against it are enemies of Nigeria who have been brushed aside as the bill is certain to get two-thirds of states approving it. |

Governors in time past used the Nigerian Police Force to settle personal disputes. I hope this won't be the case with State Police. |

State governments will handle recruitment of police officers so no cause for alarm. He who pays the piper dictates the tune. All we are after is an efficient police that are familiar with the environment and can easily identify and interrogate strangers who enter a locality to commit crimes before they happen. State police will be more proactive than reactive. |

Who will appoint the police commissioner?? Dey play ... Watch American TV shows and see how ordinary Mayor controls the police department. Talk more about a sitting confused governor |

It's easy to make a law in Nigeria till it's time to implement it. |

dre11:How about funding? That’s the most important part. The funding and salary must be automatic and they must get it even before the governor and the state house get theirs. This ensures the governor can’t use it to blackmail or coerce |

But the police over the decades have been used by the ruling president to do their biddings, they call it federal mights! Why scared of saming done by governors but can be done by presidents? The reason everyone dey fight to become president. Let the states dig it out and reduce pressure on Abuja. |

Northern region especially Core North will not like this great news because they are the one kicking against this State Police from day one because they thought it will slip power they have over the rest of Nigeria which Britain gave them from their hand and also they thought it closer way of disintegrating Nigeria. Now every region will have their own State Police they are now free to do whatever they like with their so called Shariah Police Hisbah |

The best bill passed by the senate ever. |
| Re: State Police Bill: How NASS Caged Governors by DLSReigns(m): 5:03pm On Jun 28 |
Hmm, the problem with us isn't the absence of laws but adherence. Not the lack of wonderful policies but implementation to the latter. The same politicians abusing the use of federal security apparatuses at will? Same people making the laws now will violate it with reckless abandon later. They already noted the loopholes. Nigerian politicians are the worst anywhere in the world. They never cease to crave for more even at the expense of the people they lead. By all means, they must have their way from generation to generation. |

Even this state police I don't see it as effective as Forest Guards.....state police will still not enter bush.....all we need right gt now are armed forest Guards |

| Re: State Police Bill: How NASS Caged Governors by TheGreat99(m): 5:48pm On Jun 28 |
Nonsense, Nigerians will always look for loopholes in every law. Best bet is to empower the federal police with more powers to override the state police in matters of politics and civil rights abuse. Like FBI or Internal Affairs and American State Police Meaning, the federal police should be able to arrest and detain state police where they go against these policies. |
| Re: State Police Bill: How NASS Caged Governors by simpleseyi: 5:54pm On Jun 28 |
With or without governors or NASS, Tinubu will implement State Police |
| Re: State Police Bill: How NASS Caged Governors by Dogalmighty17: 6:05pm On Jun 28 |
Joke of an article. Even the present federal police are still being abused and misused by governors to terrify opponents. When El-Rufai locked up Audu Maikori of Chocolate city for several months, which police did he use? Is it not federal? No state police commissioner will be able to resist any governor. He either plays ball and does as the governor demands or the governor starves the state police of funds. We are not ready for state police yet. The black man and mind of the average Nigerian politician is too evil to have such powers freely available. |
| Re: State Police Bill: How NASS Caged Governors by 96ACE: 6:09pm On Jun 28 |
Laws only exist on paper, looking at the way things are presently the state police will be a tool in the hand of the Governor. Just like bail is said to be free but if hand hold you you will testify. |

Look at how I am wasting my time to read nonsenseee. When I heard "caging" ,I thought Bamidele has anything to say,not knowing he is saying trash. State governors appoint the Commissioner of Police by themselves, pay their salaries and other allowances and you expect them not take every order , whether lawful and unlawful from them? Dey play! Then talking about sacking the commissioner of Police, the governor will have more than 💯 % power to hire and sack any state commissioner of Police who refuses to do "yes sir" to him at all time. SHoA confirmation? Who are the HoA members? Those Boi Boi to state governors? Which Commissioner Nominee have they,in any state, ever rejected before during screening even if they are found to be wanting? So far it is governors that nominated them, all of them will be passed by the rubber-stamped SHoA. National Police Council? What is that? Governors will override those ones like toy. In short,no governor will even recognize such a toothless body in the administration of state Police. In summary, political opponents, dissenting voices, free press, voters at polling booth, social media critiques, state labour activists and all form of activism go hear weeeñ in the hands of governors with the coming of state police. |
