Not in the medical field ... but here's my two kobo. Always bear in mind ... doctors are not God ... and most are more interested in making money than in the well being of their patients. Gonenarehe days when you can fully trust doctors and hospitals to faithfully carry out their duties. So what should you do? Ask questions ... do some research on the diagnosis... ask more questions ... use SM like you're doing to get a wider input on the condition. From your post ... questions popped up in my mind. At 74 years old ...why was he tested for prostate cancer? ... this is usually done from about age 40 . If it is in the early stages at age 74 ... then there should be no need for anything to be done to him.... he can live out his life without it affecting him ...or signs may begin to show up when he's around 90. One doctor ...one hospital has diagnosed him with early stage prostate cancer ... did you take him somewhere else? Get a second opinion.... never mentioning what was diagnosed... go to another hospital and have him tested for cancer. Don't be surprised if they diagnose something totally different. This will ease the fears you presently have . My sincere advice to you ... based on research and on close ones who were diagnosed with cancer ... whether or not he has cancer... any form of cancer ... let him stay clear of any treatment recommended by any doctor or hospital period.... even if you have the money to be treated by the best . Use the leaves of the sour sop tree to make tea ... he can drink in the morning....and at night. This is one of quite a few plants that cure ...not manage ...cures cancer. It is even mentioned in several topics in this Nairaland Health Section .... but I know this to be a fact. If you take your father for a second opinion ... they came to the same conclusion...give him the tea and go back in six months to redo the test .... I guarantee you it will be gone.

Originalsly:Can the soursop leaves remedy also take care of BPH.(enlanged Prostate)? |
| Re: My Dad Has Postrate Cancer. by jchioma: 12:15pm On Jun 30 |
Originalsly:Op, take this advice seriously. There has been numerous testimonies to be found on the efficacy of the soursop therapy. Also, he should avoid anything sugary, including carbohydrates and replace diet with pulse (dry beans, lentils, chickpeas, and split peas), and vegetables. He can also skip meat and milk until there’s full recovery. |

I pray the power of God heals your father. I feel sad whenever I hear sickness, surgery, pains, cancer and the likes. My prayer is the your father will be healed supernaturally in Jesus name. Amen |

The man is 74, so no need to panic. Take him to the hospital and remove the prostate and testicles. The cancer will disappear asap. Radiology and other things are a waste of money. |

Deerahone:I honestly do not know.. What I know is stinging nettle has kind effect on the prostate.. what really I do not know. It is an ingredient in some prostate medications |
| Re: My Dad Has Postrate Cancer. by LIVINGICONREBOR: 12:17pm On Jul 01 |
ZaRuleOfLaw:Kindly follow the above advice. Removal of the testicles only should suffice. U can still consult an urologist. |
| Re: My Dad Has Postrate Cancer. by Originalsly: 6:45pm On Jul 01 |
LIVINGICONREBOR:On what grounds are you giving this advice? ... is this a proven solution? ... and what are the side effects? Is this common practice? .... any testimonies? |
| Re: My Dad Has Postrate Cancer. by LIVINGICONREBOR: 7:45pm On Jul 01*. Modified: 11:30am On Jul 02 |
Originalsly:Medical grounds. With the removal of the testis, sperm production seize and there's a massive drop in testosterone accompanied with loss of sex drive. But I assume this is a 74 yrs old man with children. So removal of both testes will not be such a "big" deal compared with having prostate cancer that will eventually metastasize if not properly addressed in its early stages. |
| Re: My Dad Has Postrate Cancer. by Originalsly: 7:56pm On Jul 01 |
LIVINGICONREBOR:So why put him through such surgery that will not contain nor prevent the spread? ... If he does have prostate cancer? The side effects are enormous... the medications that have to be kept up ... it's not worth it. |
| Re: My Dad Has Postrate Cancer. by LIVINGICONREBOR: 11:59pm On Jul 01 |
Originalsly:It seems you don't get it. Once the testes are removed, the cancer stops provided it has not started spreading (metastasize) to other organs of the body. |
| Re: My Dad Has Postrate Cancer. by Originalsly: 12:14am On Jul 02 |
LIVINGICONREBOR:I did get it .... the bolded tells of uncertainty... and there is a high probability that it has spread and surgery will not remove it all. What happens to the vast majority of cancer patients who after undergoing chemo ... surgery etc .. and be declaring themselves cancer survivors ... and cancer free? Don't they sooner or later claim it has returned? It is not worth the pain and suffering and inconvenience ... my opinion .. the stress alone may cause him to give up the ghost sooner |

Many elderly men die with prostate cancer and not from prostate cancer Nevertheless action is key. He should adopt a plant based diet Eat soya beans, walnuts and drink green tea In no improvement in 3 months and PSA keeps increasing then surgery , chemotherapy radiotherapy are options Ho Godspeed |
| Re: My Dad Has Postrate Cancer. by NaijaUrologist: 3:49pm On Jul 04 |
Adakintroy:If it is early as you have said, your urologist will give you options of management: could be surgery to remove the prostate, radiotherapy or observation (what they call active surveillance). If you are concerned about his age and recovery from surgery, speak with your urologist and tell them the fears. |
| Re: My Dad Has Postrate Cancer. by NaijaUrologist: 3:52pm On Jul 04 |
ZaRuleOfLaw:What you are saying is wrong. You don't take out the testes for early stage prostate cancer. Please don't misdirect people with your half knowledge. |
| Re: My Dad Has Postrate Cancer. by NaijaUrologist: 3:54pm On Jul 04 |
LIVINGICONREBOR:Taking out the testes is mainly for advanced prostate cancer. And it helps prevent spread. It doesn't stop spread Take note that it isn't only the testes that produces testosterone - the adrenals also produce. So there may still be little testosterone. Prostate cancer management involves a whole lot. Like I said, consult your urologist. |
| Re: My Dad Has Postrate Cancer. by Tcheny: 5:01pm On Jul 04 |
Adakintroy:Better let him undergo prostatectomy and have rest. People older than him have had successful prostate removal. Unless he has underlying medical conditions, removing his prostate is the best solution. |
