BREAKING: President Tinubu has approved the comprehensive reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), which will see the agency being led by a civilian in its operational leadership, while the military will continue to handle security for corps members across the country.


Tinubu also directed the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Minister of Youth, Ayodele Olawande, to amend the NYSC Act and its regulations to reflect all the approved reform measures, enabling immediate implementation of the new framework.

Some of the landmark reforms include:

1. A technology-driven call-up process.

2. Risk-sensitive deployment to better protect corps members.

3. A redesigned six-week orientation programme with a stronger focus on leadership, entrepreneurship, digital skills, and specialised career streams.

4. Skills-based primary assignments aligned with academic background and career pathways.

5. Modern governance with civilian operational leadership while the military continues to provide security support.

6. Improved camp standards through a national grading and certification system.

7. A new graduation ceremony to replace the Passing Out Parade, and a redesigned NYSC uniform that reflects professionalism and national pride.

This man wants to stop military perks,,,he had better be wary! The NYSC should enhance its miltary curriculum..........the nation is under threat ,,,,we need to poach potential miltary talent !

So what is your point?
What Nigeria needs now isn’t military development but economic empowerment of her youths. We aren’t facing external aggression but internal. So you mean the youths should be militarily empowered to face themselves?

Youths can be recruited for military engagement, definitely not converting an institution like NYSC for such purpose

Speaking further on the planned NYSC reform, the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, revealed that the NYSC orientation camp would be restructured into three phases:

- The first two weeks will focus on civic responsibility, national values, and leadership development.
- The next two weeks will cover career mapping, financial literacy, business planning, and access to finance.
- The final two weeks will provide specialised training based on each corps member’s chosen career stream.

Under the new framework, corps members will select one of the newly created 11 specialised streams upon registration and will receive specialised training throughout the orientation programme in preparation for future employment and national service.

The 11 specialised streams are: Agric Corps, Medical Corps, Education Corps, Tech and Digital Corps, Legal Corps, Public Service Corps, Infrastructure Corps, Green Corps, Enterprise Corps, Creative Economy Corps, and Paramilitary and Security Corps.

She added that the specialised streams will equip graduates with practical skills tailored to their academic backgrounds, career interests, and the country’s workforce needs.

Usman noted that the reforms also review deployment procedures, including how corps members are posted across states, with greater consideration for prevailing security realities.

Compulsory military service so the graduates will be slaughtered like the military generals. Compulsory service in a compromised military. I'm sure you have family members, you should refer them to join the military.

I think it’s cool. The sweetest thing about NYSC is that orientation camp.

This looks good. Hope it enhances the graduates chances of having meaningful employment or an opportunity to be self employed.

Tinubu would have made a favourable history for himself if he had not carelessly declared "subsidy is gone" on the very day he was sworn-in.
His rude removal of fuel subsidy and unprecedented floating of the naira which have both resulted in hyper-inflation have caused untold hardship on millions of Nigerians and also rendered every other effort of the president useless to the people.

Increase their allowances as well by 200% you here.

What 4-8 years could not impact, you want to do in 6 weeks; this is just an avenue to waste more time on orientation camp and provide more leeways gro for the contractors to make more money. The education curriculum needs total overhaul from at least secondary school up

My no 1 point in the link I posted strongly suggests that NYSC should be optional. You can't force me to love another tribe. You force a girl for sex/love, you all call it rape/ molestation!
Now the Federal Government of Nigeria force corpers to love another tribe -- now that do you all call that?

If it is not audio as reform or with another sinister motive, this is a welcome development.
If you can't scrap it, then, revamp it. That scheme as it is presently is outdated and irrelevant, but with what was written above I think the revamping is a good step in the right direction especially since it includes access to finance. It will help lots of youth and the nation will benefit from it's long term effect if properly executed as stated in policy blue print as above.

Two weeks stay is 70k, I hope the three weeks will be 210k

For the umpteenth time, the last government made provision for subsidy just unitl June.

You are educated enough to have desisted from holding on to this line of " subsidy is gone" or he should have done it in whatever form as Mr Obi is parroting left, right and center.

Perhaps,he should have been removing the subsidy state by state to satisfy people like you.

For me, I don’t think they need to remove the military drill. It can be done for a week then no need to change NYSC uniform too
